Thankful Grateful Blessed

November is here and with it comes a feeling of gratitude for many. As we prepare for Thanksgiving, our hearts are turned to the many blessings, big and small in our lives.

Over the last year, Mark and I have noticed that our children seem to struggle in giving thanks. Many prayers are said asking for blessings, but the gratitude is minimal. This month, with my Thankful Grateful Blessed tee from Cents of Style, I’m putting a plan in place to focus more on showing my own gratitude while encouraging the kids to ponder more on their own blessings.

So for the month of November, and hopefully longer, I plan on sending my kids off to the bus stop not with a “Have a good day”, but rather with a “What are you thankful for today?”. Then on their return, instead of asking “How was your day?” I will focus on the good. “What was the best part of your day?”

You see when we focus on the good, and remember to look at the positives from our day, it naturally reminds us what we have been blessed with. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the frustrations and the ‘what went wrong’ moments of our day. As the parent, though, I have a duty to help remind my children that those moments are just that – a moment in time. The bad will pass unless we choose to hold on to it. The good however will last much longer as we embrace it and seek it out.

My sister in law uses the phrase “Sweet and Sour”. At the end of the day she’ll ask her kids what the sweet part of their day was, and what the sour part was. I love this idea! I know it’s not realistic to pretend that the sour never happens. So giving our kids a chance to talk about both the good and bad is brilliant. It also offers us as parents the chance to help them focus on those sweet parts, and turn the sour around.

These are just a few of my thankful grateful blessed moments from the past month.

Thankful for my family. My parents, my siblings, my cousins, my aunts and uncles, my husband and my children.

Grateful for a job, a house, and food in the pantry.

Blessed because no matter what has happened, I have always always had family, friends, food and shelter. My basic necessities have always been met.

Fall Fashion with the Remi Swing Dress + Blanket Scarf

Cold weather, rainy days, a cup of hot cocoa, and the most comfy dress I think I’ve ever worn! Have I mentioned how much I love fall? I know I have, but I won’t stop saying it. Fall is the best season of the year!

The first day I wore my Remi Swing Dress, I couldn’t stop raving about it. By the end of the day I think Mark had heard it enough and responded that it was because I was basically just wearing a t-shirt.

He couldn’t have been more right with that statement! OK OK, it’s not a t-shirt, but you know those TV shows with the girls wearing just a t-shirt and they look so comfortable lounging around? Yeah, that’s basically what the Remi Swing Dress is for me. I totally lounged around the house all Sunday afternoon in it.

It’s not just for lounging though! This super comfortable dress looks amazing with just a few accessories added. I layered the top with another super comfy item – a blanket scarf! On the bottom half I pulled on a pair of colorful tights and then my knee high boots. With the length of the Remi and the height of the boots, it leaves just a hint of color peeping out, which is just how I like it!

I love how the Remi hugs my body in all the right places without accentuating the areas I’d rather not show too much. It comes in all sizes and all colors! If you don’t like the knee high boot look, Cents of Style also has some cute ankle boots that would also look adorbs with the Remi.

Swimming in Style and a Whimsey Lane Giveaway

Nothing says summer like a hot day and a new swimming suit. Add in a crazy busy summer and taking a little time to relax poolside is just what this mama needed. I’m sure if you’re a regular visitor, you’ve noticed a bit more silence around here. Sorry about that – but I moved – and then took a week vacation in South Carolina.

Oh South Carolina! When I first made plans to visit this southern state I saw lazy days by the ocean. Then a month before our trip, the shark attacks began happening. BOO!! So the beach was out. Thankfully there was a fantastic pool at the hotel, and equipped by my friend Julia from Whimsey Lane, I had a fantastic suit to wear!

One fantastic thing about going on vacation with family, is the 5 extra pairs of eyes and hands to help out with the kids. MAR-VE-LOUS! My anxiety level was greatly decreased thanks to my brothers, sisters and parents all helping out around the pool.

After a good swim I hung out on the side with my Little Prince. The pool was overall too deep for him, so besides the little steps going into it, and sitting on the edge he didn’t have much to do. Just being outside though was enough for him.

Ya’ll I had such a blast, and thanks to my dear friend Julia and her awesome modest swimsuits, even the pool was a good time. She’s got all kinds of styles to choose from, and you can mix and match tops to bottoms like I did. I was a little skeptic on the red bottoms with blue top at first, but I love it. The contrast really makes it more fun to wear.

My Anywhere Boots

I am so excited to share my experience wearing Brian James Boots with you today! When I was first browsing the Brian James website, I was immediately drawn to their ankle high boots. Similar to the first pair of boots I ever bought, but not as tall, I knew I wanted to try a pair.

I have found myself waking up and looking for what I can wear that the boots will work with – which has been just about everything. A couple weeks ago at church I wasn’t needed in the nursery so instead of wearing flats, I got to wear my boots to church – oh the love.

Last week after Prince L had been sick, and we had been housebound, we ventured out to the park for the day; again I wore the Smoke Skin Suede boots from Brian James. They didn’t hinder being able to hang out with the kids at all. Prince L was still pretty exhausted though, so we hung out in the shade for awhile.

This is probably one of my favorite photos of the Little Prince and I, and if you’re my fb friend you’ll recognize it as my new profile picture.

The boots made another appearance this last weekend on Date Night, paired with my new pants and shirt from Scheels (Thanks hubby!).

Before grabbing some Sushi and hanging out in the local game store we found, we had a couple errands to run. One included dropping off Princess V’s leotard to the dance studio – and smelling the beautiful flowers.

We finished date night doing our weekly grocery shopping, before heading back home to the kids. The only thing I suggest when ordering Brian James, is if you have wide feet, go a size larger. They’re pretty narrow, and my feet are on the wide side.

Spring Fashion has Arrived

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for OshKosh B’Gosh. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

I’m in crazy love with this photo above! The flip flops, hats, and big sisterly smiles – it just doesn’t get much better when snapping pictures of the kids. OshKosh has their Spring line out, and while browsing, I could not help myself – how cute are these dresses and hats?! The colors are so bright and fun in the hats, while the dresses are a bit more mild with just a pop of color.

I couldn’t leave little Prince out, so found this dapper polo shirt, and khaki shorts for him. He was fairly disappointed that there wasn’t a hat for him, but as soon as I showed him the pockets in the pants he was sold. Little boys need pockets after all.

He still wanted a hat though, so while we were out enjoying this nice spring day, he stole a couple. First Princess R’s, and later mine.

We went on this adventure today, out to the practice field across the road, and then on to the kids elementary school playground. There was a bit of a breeze (when isn’t there in North Dakota?), but with the sun shining we had to take advantage. Our neighbor keeps warning us that more snow will be coming. As much as I love snow, I kind of hope she’s wrong. It’s so nice right now.

Big floppy hats anyone? Or perhaps a fedora with a big pink flower? You’ll find it all in child size at OshKosh. Seriously just so cute. I have my own big floppy hat, but I’m thinking I need a fedora now too. The wind made it difficult to keep the hats on, but the girls were troopers, and did their best.

Holiday Gift Guide: Holiday Outfit from eShakti
