Suffering with moldy toilets? Suffer no longer, because I just found the best product to use, and I’m sharing my knowledge with you.
      Stop Moldy Toilets

About a week after moving into our rental, I noticed mold was starting to grow inside the toilet bowl. I grabbed the scrub brush and tried to clean it out. For the next couple days, I found myself scrubbing that toilet bowl. It was so gross! It didn’t matter how often I scrubbed it, the mold was growing faster than I could keep up with.

    YUCK!

One morning, I woke up and told Mark I was going to get that toilet cleaned by the end of the day no matter what it took. Turns out, he had the same thought (yes I have an awesome husband).

Mark’s solution was a bit more educational than mine. He deduced that there must be something like calcium deposits in our toilet. So he grabbed Lime-A-Way and poured it into the toilet tank.  That way, every time we flushed, we’d get a coating of Lime-A-Way in the bowl.

Ok I thought, that might work, however, I still needed to scrub the new layer of mold off. I took my trusty Comet, and scrub brush, and headed to the bathroom. The Lime-A-Way had already been at work! One coating of Comet and the mold came right off.

I kept my eye on the toilet the next couple days, waiting for the mold to come back, but it never did!!

    Thank you Lime-A-Way!!

Two weeks later, a small patch of mold was returning, so I added a couple more squirts of Lime-A-Way to the tank, scrubbed the inside of the bowl, and our toilet was clean again.

    Stop Moldy Toilets

If you are having a mold problem as bad as mine, I suggest calling a plumber as well as using the Lime-A-Way and Comet. There is very possibly something else going on to cause such a large mold build up. Since we were renting, we chose to stick with cleaning it ourselves until the landlord chose to hire a professional.

  • Shave Well Fog Free Mirror {Review and Giveaway}

    Shave Well Fog Free Mirror {Review and Giveaway}

Fathers Day is coming up and if you haven’t found that perfect gift yet, maybe look into this! The Shave Well Fog Free Shower Mirror is something every dad could use.  Nothing extravagant. In Mark’s words “It’s just a mirror”.  No bulky radio attached, or any other silly perks. “It’s just a mirror”.

The Shave Well Company has designed a simple slim mirror that will stay fog free, so your man can shave in the shower with ease. The mirror comes with a hook to hold the mirror, but Mark seems to prefer just holding it.

To keep the mirror fog free all you have to do is hold it under the shower water for a bit. Once the mirror is the same temperature as the air in the shower it will stay fog free. The simple science makes total sense.

Mark’s previous mirror worked the same way but it would slowly start to fog up. The Shave well lasts most of the shower before it needs another run under the water, and really unless you have a lot of shaving to do you’ll only need to run it under once for your fog free experience.
Already have your fathers day gift?  This mirror is nice for women too, for any face cleansing they do in the shower.  I personally love that this mirror takes up so little space in our shower compared to our last bulky mirror/radio combo.

We had a funny experience with this mirror one morning. Since we don’t use the hook, we just prop it up against the shower wall when it’s not in use. Well one morning we went to grab it, and it had gotten pushed up against the wall, and somehow suctioned itself to the wall. We slid that thing all over the shower trying to get it loose, so we could use it.  I wondered to myself at the point if we should pull out the hook just for that purpose, but Mark still likes to leave off the hook. He says it has the kind of sticky back that is impossible to come off. Normally we wouldn’t mind, but since we may be moving soon, we’ve decided to leave it off the shower.

  • Tuesday Tips – Fresh Towels

    Tuesday Tips – Fresh Towels

    Tuesday Tip
As I walked into my bathroom this morning, I breathed a sigh of comfort as I noticed the fresh hand towel hanging up. With 3 little kids, our towels are often dirty, or missing.  Although I try to keep a clean one hanging, sometimes it just doesn’t happen.
Hanging a fresh towel can add loads to the ambiance of a bathroom. For me it relieves stress, exudes calm feelings, and really just starts my day out right. Now, having a clean bathroom with those towels will add even more! (Which for me this morning was the case, since I just cleaned them yesterday! YES! go me!)

  • Tuesday Tip – Cleaning the bathrooms

    Tuesday Tips
I dread cleaning the bathrooms. I don’t know why, it’s probably one of the quickest rooms in the house to clean. It also has the potential to stay cleaner longer then say the playroom, but I still dread cleaning it.
Ideally I would give it a thorough cleaning once a week, in reality, it’s a lot less than that.
So when I came across this article through pinterest, I was ecstatic!

Yes, I  just said ecstatic in association with cleaning the bathrooms!!
I grabbed my notepad, and wrote down the simple step by step instructions and headed to the bathroom.  I’ve never used microfiber towels in my bathroom, or paper towels. In the past I’ve used a myriad of different cleaners for the different surfaces as well.
Comet for the toilet, tub and sink.
    Windex for the mirror.
    Ammonia for the floor.
And then of course, tougher grime, I pulled out the tougher cleaners. Needless to say, you could easily get poisoned with the different cleaners I would use in one cleaning session.  According to this professional cleaner, all you need is one. I decided to use a vinegar and water mixture, and was pleased with the results. By following the step by step guide, I think I cut the time I usually spend cleaning the bathroom in half.

Now I don’t know about you, but my shower doors get all covered in that white soap and hard water scum. Not even vinegar and water will clean that off! I was pretty sure I’d tried it all, short of replacing the doors, but decided to do one more pinterest search.
Let me just tell you how desperate I was getting –
Goo-Be-Gone – works but takes a whole lot of elbow grease and would take 48hours to completely clean (estimated time, but I spent a good afternoon and got maybe a 1/4 to a 1/2 of one door clean)
Steam Mop – Oh yeah, I even tried steam mopping it off!! I have to laugh at myself for this one, but it was sure worth the try. No it didn’t work.

But guess what! I found it! The KEY to cleaning your shower doors!

    Lemon Dusting Spray.
You’re joking right? That was my first thought when I came across this tip. But hey, I’d just attempted to steam mop it off, why not try the Lemon Duster? I had some, and it wasn’t getting any other use in my house.
Wow! Mothers, housekeepers, stay at home dads – rejoice! When Mark got home last night, I couldn’t stop talking about the amazingly clear shower doors. I sprayed it on, and left it for about an hour. When I came back, I already saw the difference. It was like soap scum was something I had made up, a fantasy.
Here’s my little advice and what I learned though.
    – Don’t spray the floor of your shower, it will get very slippery. Perhaps lay a towel down inside to catch any drips.
     – If it dries on, it will look like it cleaned itself and you may think you got out of any scrubbing. Sorry, you’ll see the lemon spray next time you shower. Just get a damp rag and rinse off the doors after you’ve let it work it’s magic.
    – Lastly, textured showered doors clean much better than clear. The clear doors are going to take a little more elbow grease than the textured doors.

  • Princess Bathroom

    Princess Bathroom

In the midst of our dining room remodel, I’ve been trying to create a spa like bathroom for the Princesses.  I’ve decided it’s time to resort to pinterest again, because I’m stumped. This is what we have so far.

As you come down the stairs to the kid area, I’ve got their cute bathrobes ready to grab to head up to a bath, and easily accessable to put away after the bath. This is probably my favorite thing so far!

Just inside the bathroom I’ve hung their bow holder within reach so they can do their own hair. I want to get some cute towels, but it’s on a budget waiting list.

And this is what I have to work with. I’m just stumped. It’s an odd bathroom, and not much place for anything.  Now I think it would be fun to paint it pink, but since we are adding a boy to the family, we’ve got to keep it a little more gender neutral.
Now here’s some inspiration I’m getting from pinterest

    These signs would be fun

  • My Closet is Prettier than Yours – week 1 “After”

My Closet is Prettier than Yours – week 1 “After”

    Photobucket
Have you all seen this challenge over at Trulie Scrumptious? It’s the “My Closet is Prettier than Yours” challenge. Ash and Roz have dubbed September Organize your closets month.  This last week we spent organizing our Linen Closets or bathroom closets.  You can see my before pictures over here.
I probably would have been done a little sooner this week, except I get hit with a head cold/flu bug yesterday and was completely laid out!  Thankfully I woke up this morning feeling a million times better, although not 100%, enough to actually do some organizing.
And with that, here are my after photos!
This is the top half of the kids/guest closet. Even I have to use a stool to reach the top, so I decided instead of crowding under the kitchen sink, I could store all the cleaning supplies up here. There is no way the Princess’ are going to get into those.  And then of course our stock pile of lotions, shampoos, and potty training reward jar (empty yes, it hasn’t been used for awhile).
Here we have the bottom half the kids/guest closet. Thanks to pinterest, and some googling, I found a lot of people putting their laundry baskets on the bottom shelf of their linen closets. I loved this idea! We had been alternating between in their bedrooms and in the hallway, and I didn’t like how either of those looked. Now it is hidden away, and the Princess’ find it fun to toss their clothes inside the closet.  I then used some wicker baskets I had laying around; one for all the combs and brushes, and one for all the washcloths.  Thanks to Mark’s mom we have these nifty plastic containers that are helping store all the little hair clips, ties, nail polish and clippers.  I love our newly organized closet!!

If you recall, we don’t actually have a closet in our master bathroom. So we have this behind the toilet shelf unit. It has been really handy, but very disorganized. I am now pleased to say, that this “closet” makes me very happy. The decoration on top, followed with useful organization on the next two shelves is very refreshing.
Admittedly though, this photo is a bit staged. We have many, many more towels that will be on the bottom shelf. They are just all dirty at the moment due to a lack of washer/dryer this week. So instead of letting it look empty I dressed it up a bit with the hand towels, and washcloths.  I do wish it could always look like this though.
Do you want to get in on this challenge? I hear there’s a prize for the Prettiest Closets at the end! Head over to Trulie Scrumptious today to learn how you can enter your closets! (Just be warned, my closets are going to be the prettiest!)
