  • How to Prep Your Home for Sale

How to Prep Your Home for Sale

As we continue our search for a new job, we are also prepping the house for sale. Although we haven’t listed it on the market yet, we want it ready to go up as soon as we know where we’ll be moving. By having the home in top condition before listing it, we should be able to sell it in a short time period, without too much back and forth with a potential buyer.
Also once we move, we will not be able to take care of anything in the home, so it needs to be looking good, in case we have to move before it sells.

So before you list your home for sale, I suggest going through room by room and making a list of anything that needs updated, painted, or repaired.  Mark has gone through the home and made this list for us. It’s going to take a lot of work, but we don’t have much else to do.

    Master Room
    – Clean walls. Possibly repaint
    – Fix the broken blinds

    Bedroom #1
    – Touch up Paint
    – Reattach closet door

    Bedroom #2
    – replace flooring in walk in closet
    – scrub walls. Possibly paint

    Bedroom #3
    – Scrub walls

    Bathroom
    – Touch up paint
    – Fix door jam
    – Fix cupboard door
    Hallway
    – Touch up paint
    Front Room
    – Retrim doorway
    – Repaint
    – fill screw holes

    Kitchen
    – Touch up paint around window and ceiling
    – Spacer between cupboard and wall
    – Ceilling edge above stove
    – Caulk around attic entrance
    – Conceal the back of the cupboard showing
    – Trim around pantry doors
    – Sand, caulk and paint trim

    Family Room
    – Paint trim and ceiling
    – Paint fireplace top piece
    – clean paint off doorknobs

    Stairway
    – fill cracks
    – paint
    – clean doorknob
    – Stain hand rail

After you’ve gone through the inside of your home, take a walk around the outside. List any repairs. Make sure the sprinklers are working, the lawn is trim, and weeds are pulled. As a buyer, the lawn is the first thing we see. Make it look good, but don’t invest too much money into it. I enjoy having a lawn to make my own, rather then redo what the previous owner had done. I would say stick to daily upkeep of the yard, and don’t try and do any large projects unless it really needs it.

  • Where Ever We Go We’ll Make it a Home

Where Ever We Go We’ll Make it a Home

This post has been in the works for a few weeks now. At first I was a little too emotional to talk about it. Then I felt it should wait until Mark’s current (at the time) contract was up. I’m past the emotion, and his contract is up. So here it is…
Mark resigned from teaching band at the local high school. He finished out the school year, but we are now looking for a job elsewhere.
My initial reaction was to look at every school close to where we live. I DID NOT want to move. We just bought our house last year. We have put a ton of work into making it our home. We’ve dealt with flooding, termites and a kitchen remodel. We love the neighborhood. We have some great friends, and the kids love it here too.
When it became clear there weren’t really any jobs nearby, I got myself ready for the idea of moving. I began looking at our home and what needs to be done to sell and not lose money on the home. You can expect many posts in the near future on prepping your home to sell.

You could say that I am actually pretty excited about moving now. Yes I will miss this home, and our community here, but I am ready for another adventure. We’ve applied all over the country, and have had many interviews the past two weeks.  We will continue to apply and interview until a job is offered.
The funnest part for me, is that I don’t have to interview. I just get to send Mark off to do that, while I browse house listings in the area. Since most schools start in August, we will have to be ready to move mid to end July and I want to know the areas and what’s available to us. I’ve been using Zillow’s Ipad App to check out listings. I really love their App (the website could use a little help though). You type in the area you are looking to live, and a map pops up with little houses scattered across it. You can edit the price range, sq footage, bedrooms, etc to get just the listings you’re interested in.

No matter where we end up, we will make it our home.
I’m taking guesses on where we’ll end up. We’ve pretty much applied across the country, so guess away. Will we find something close enough to commute, or will we move across the country?
*Incase you’re wondering this is not a sponsored post. I like Zillow a whole lot, and it just happened to work it’s way into this post 🙂 If you’re looking for a home, I suggest you check it out, but I’m not being compensated for it at all.

  • Tuesday Tip from My Memories Suite

Are you a digital scrapbooker? I’m really just getting into it. I’ve always been a hands on person, so the digital scrapbooking sometimes feels overwhelming to me. Thankfully, My Memories Suite (the software I use) has tons of great video tutorials to help answer my many questions and problems I run into.
Apparently you can use any online scrapbooking material with the My Memories Suite Software. It doesn’t have to come from My Memories.  I think it’s pretty cool when companies make their software so universal like this.  The question then boils down to, how?  How do you use the other scrapbook pages, embelishments, etc with My Memories?
Easy! Watch the video and then have fun finding the best digital scrapbook deals to use!

Did you know My Memories also has a Design Club?  As a member of the club you get 5 kits a full month before they’re available to anyone else on the My Memories site.  The membership is only $5.99 a month too. Seems like a good deal to me.
PLUS right now when you sign up for a membership you’ll get the Sun-sational kit for free!  Cool beans.
If you haven’t gotten into digital scrapbooking yet, but want to, I suggest checking out the My Memories Suite software. It’s really easy to use, and the customer service people are pretty nice helping you figure everything out.
If you decide to buy the software, use this code to get $10 OFF

  • Saturday Thrift Finds

    Saturday Thrift Finds

We had a very lazy Saturday! I took one Princess and did some grocery shopping, and Mark took the other 2 and got some school work done. Just before lunch a couple came over to look at our Breakfast Nook. They’ve just moved up here to go to college, and were in need of some furnishings.  They were so sweet and friendly, and so in love with my breakfast nook.  If I had to sell it (and I did have to) it was a couple that loved it like I did who I wanted to have it.  YAY! So we made some money off of that, and Mark immediately decided he wanted some chairs for our new kitchen table.  We’ve been using folding chairs. Besides being kind of ugly around a kitchen table, they weren’t all that comfortable or safe with kids climbing all over them. So I sent Mark to the local thrift store, Deseret Industries, to see what he could find. I suggested he look for a small couch as well to give us some seating in the family room. With only spending $10 more than we made off the table, he came home with some chairs that look like they were made for our table, and a corner piece from a couch sectional, that is extremely comfy!

$20 deal on the couch! Mark and I fit perfectly for some late night cuddling by the fire.  I may find myself sleeping on this as the pregnancy gets more uncomfortable as well. Yeah it’s THAT comfy!

$10 deal per chair, and we got 4! They are slightly lighter than the table, but not enough to matter. We sat down for dinner, and again the level of comfort rose so much! Mark even hung out after he was done eating for some good family conversation. These plus the folding chairs gives us enough chairs to have company over as well!
  • Heely’s, the shoes with wheels Review

“Heelys are the original shoe with wheels in the heels that allow the user to transition from a walk to a roll by shifting weight to the heel. Users can also transform Heelys into street shoes by removing the wheels.”

I am having a hard time getting used to these wheeled shoes. Heelys sent me a pair to try and out, and I was pretty excited to act like a kid again! Turns out my balance, especially when pregnant is not very good.

I love the look of my Heelys. There are so many different styles to choose from, and sizes range from kids to adult.  When Mark and I got married, he had a pair of Heelys and I just laughed at them, because to me they were a kids shoe.  I’ve learned differently.  I personally think it would be a blast to get some Heelys for the whole family.  You see families biking together, roller blading, and going on walks. I think the next new thing will be Heely family outings!

When I pulled my Heelys out to try out, I showed Princess V. You can’t really see the wheels, so at first she wasn’t too interested. Then I started rolling them around the floor. Her eyes about bugged out, and she excitedly exclaimed “MOM do those have wheels?!!” followed by “Can I try them?”  I have a hard time saying no, so of course I let her try them on.

That is the look of pure joy! She then insisted I try them on as well. Sorry no picture. I will be using my Heelys more as a street shoe until I have a bit more of my balance back. I may find next summer that going for walks with the stroller is more fun with my own set of wheels!
