The Home Makers Friend #DailyPlanner Giveaway

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
I have a confession to make – I’m not at all organized. Really, I’m not. The whole point of this blog, when I started it a little over 3 years ago was to help me get organized. We were living in a small apartment with 3 kids, had just moved from a lot of our friends, and I needed some get up and go. So I blogged about it.
Now granted my blogging has come along way since then, and I do believe my home looks better than it did during those days of clutter – I’m still not very organized. I want to be though. So very badly, both in my home, and in my life.
I have found that the best way to organize my home, is to organize my life. If I wake up in the morning, and don’t have a clue on what I plan to do that day – then I’m not going to get much of anything done. BUT if I wake up early (because I like mornings), read my scriptures, and have a set plan for the rest of the day, then I do get stuff done. Lots of stuff usually.

As a homemaker, we wear many hats.

    • Mother
    • Cook
    • Maid
    • Chauffeur
    • Nurse
    • Friend
    • Wife
    • Party planner
On top of that, if you work another job that actually pays you something, you’ve got one more item in your day to manage. You could hire a maid or personal chef…but let’s get real, most of us probably don’t have the money to do that. We do it all, but sometimes it can get overwhelming right? I know I”m not alone here.
I love using my Daily Planner to organize my days. When I have a clear plan of what I need to get done each day, month, year – it usually gets done. In the Home Makers Friend planner, you’ll find a place for everything you need to do.
    • Yearly – mark up birthdays, anniversaries, vacations
    • Monthly – plan out your month in advance here. When are bills due, soccer games, dance class, doctors visits.
    • Weekly – a little more space to write times things need to be done, a menu plan for each day, perhaps which chores need to get done that day. Really plan out your day to the minuscule tasks.
    • Info – this has space for contact info – doctors, school, husbands work, friends.
    • Tasks and Projects – plenty of space to write out your lists, plan parties, any thoughts you may need to write down can go here, instead of on a scrap of paper you know is going to get lost.
    • Shopping! Yep, there’s even a place for your shopping lists. Kids need new clothes? Out of milk? start your list here, and then take it to the store with you. There is also an area to write down store numbers, so you can save time and money from driving around to different stores.

How will a Daily Planner help you?

    GIVEAWAY

  • American Ride Blast

    American Ride Blast

Happy Memorial Day Weekend everyone! A couple weeks ago I downloaded the BYUtv app on my phone so I could watch Granite Flats, when I saw they have this show called American Ride. I haven’t started it yet, but it’s on my list, and I will probably begin it shortly after I write this post.  There are so many ways to celebrate this great country we live in and those who protect it, but one of the best ways I feel we can show our love of country is by learning it’s history. So read on, enter the giveaway at the bottom, and then go watch some American Ride!

Host of AMERICAN RIDE, Stan Ellsworth breaks the mold of the stereotypical High School history teacher.

Former history teacher Stan Ellsworth tours the country on a Harley Davidson for the television show “American Ride.” Ellsworth’s approach to American history in AMERICAN RIDE removes the “bow tie and sweater vest” of history professors, puts on the “skull rag and denim vest” and breaks down stereotypes. His adventurous spirit and love for the United States is contagious and engaging. His approach is more like an invitation to walk (and ride) with him through the footsteps of history. He hopes the stories and “postcards” from the highways and byways of the country will make American history relevant to today’s audiences, and motivate them to take an active part in the preservation of the values this country was built upon.

Now in the sixth season, Stan takes you across the world to see how the clouds of war gathered once again and what led America to enter WWII. New episodes air each Monday 9PM ET/ 7PM MT on BYUtv. If you’ve missed any episodes, you can catch up with all of the previous seasons online anytime at www.byutv.com/americanride

    ABOUT STAN ELLSWORTH

The 6’ 2”, 300-lb muscle-clad Harley Davidson-riding host of BYUtv’s acclaimed American history program, American Ride, would like nothing better than to inspire the next generation of George Washingtons, Susan B. Anthonys and Thomas Jeffersons. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and raised in the Carolinas, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and Pennsylvania, Ellsworth was steeped in the landmarks and stories of American history throughout his formative years. His family lineage includes such historic luminaries as Revolutionary War patriot Ethan Allen; both Generals of the Civil War, Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant (also the 18th president of the U.S.); and American folk heroes Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett.

Ellsworth’s goal—both when he was in the classroom, and now in his weekly television program—has always been to “wake people up” to the stories of our founding fathers and mothers, and to the sacrifices they made in creating this nation. In his gruff baritone voice, he speaks eloquently of our heritage and extols the wisdom and bravery of those who came before.

    “LET’S TAKE A RIDE” ~ Stan Ellsworth

  • Hair Springs – a new Hair Accessory and a #giveaway

Hair Springs – a new Hair Accessory and a #giveaway

I received products mentioned in this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

In an effort to be more present in my children’s daily lives, I’ve taken to doing their hair more often. I have some fun memories of my own mom brushing out my hair, and putting it in curlers at night. I remember complaining that the curlers hurt every time, but loving the outcome the next morning.
Then there was one summer we spent at my aunt’s and I recall how fun it was to sit with my cousins in their mom’s bathroom while she put pretty ribbons in our hair.

Over the weekend I decided to try out a new product called Hair Springs that I thought the girls would really enjoy. These are fun little springs with colored beads in the end. They are both functional and cute – just what every little girl and mom wants!

My girls all have very different types of hair, so we did a bit of a test to see how well and in what ways the Hair Springs would work best for each of them.

    1. Princess V has some thick, but beautifully straight hair. She doesn’t like to do a lot of fancy things with her hair, so we do a lot of ponytails. With her thick hair, it often leaves weird little bubbles of hair on the top of her head. Our hope was the hairsprings would help tame the hair bubbles, while giving her a simple colorful addition to her ponytail.
As you can tell the Hair Springs helped pull the bubbles back so the front of her hair was more smooth. Success!
    2. For Princess C we weren’t sure the Hair Springs would do much. Her hair is much more thin, though she has a lot of it. She is my flip flop child – some days it needs to be fancy, and others she wants it simple. So we tried these out with some pig tails. It’s a fun hair do that really matches her personality! The Hair Springs seemed like they might not stick in her thin hair, but they did.
    3. Princess R now – well she is a riot. She cut her hair once…or maybe even multiple times, I’m losing track at this point with the many hair and scissor incidents we’ve had. She always wants something really fancy, but until just recently her hair has been too short. I decided for her hair the Hair Springs were going to work better as decoration then functional. I’ve seen a couple different crown type styles lately, and decided to see if I could recreate one without using a tutorial (because that’s just how I roll). Oh my word, her crown turned out so perfect, and the Hair Springs added a nice touch to look like jewels on the crown.
One thing you should know about the Hair Springs is that they can easily get stuck in the hair. I probably won’t use these on a day where I know the kids are going to be extremely active. However, for days like church, these are going to be a nice addition to our hair accessories.

    Prejudice Meets Pride Book Blast

Prejudice Meets Pride by Rachael Anderson
After years of pinching pennies and struggling to get through art school, Emma Makie’s hard work finally pays off with the offer of a dream job. But when tragedy strikes, she has no choice but to make a cross-country move to Colorado Springs to take temporary custody of her two nieces. She has no money, no job prospects, and no idea how to be a mother to two little girls, but she isn’t about to let that stop her. Nor is she about to accept the help of Kevin Grantham, her handsome new neighbor, who seems to think she’s incapable of doing anything on her own.

Fun, compelling, and romantic, Prejudice Meets Pride is the story of a guy who thinks he has it all figured out and a girl who isn’t afraid to show him that he doesn’t. It’s about learning what it means to trust, figuring out how to give and to take, and realizing that not everyone gets to pick the person they fall in love with. Sometimes, love picks them.

    Hoppy Easter Eggstravaganza Giveaway Hop

    Hoppy Easter 2
Welcome to the Hoppy Easter Eggstravaganza Giveaway Hop!
This hop is hosted by I am a Reader and Read now Sleep Later.
I have been so excited for this giveaway my friends because I am bringing you gift certificates for TWO of my favorite things in life – Food, and Book related stuff! Exciting right? We need food to live, but books make living so much better. With spring finally showing up, that usually means a little crazier schedule as we try to catch some sun. Hopefully this giveaway will give you a little time back to enjoy the more important things in life – like family. So enough suspense, let’s welcome these sponsors.
Schwans! I met Myesha (love her name) at a Home and Garden show a month ago. She was so friendly to talk to. I told her the story of how as a kid, one of the most exciting times for us was when the Schwans Man came driving up our driveway (it was a long drive..). Living in the backwoods of NH, we didn’t get an ice cream truck, and I believed they were just in stories and movies (until I moved to UT and actually saw one, and bought ice cream from one…). To us, the Schwans Man WAS our ice cream truck. My mom would sit down with him in our living room, look through the catalogue he brought, check out the weeks specials, make an order, and bam – there it was, in his truck all ready for her.
    FlASHBACK!
My older brother, and my baby sister and brother hanging out on the Schwans truck.

Currently Schwans offers over 350 products flash frozen at the peak of freshness. As a mother myself now, I placed my first Schwans order last week online (oh the days have changed) of Bomb Pop Jr Frozen treats and the LiveSmart Creme Bars, and it arrived Monday night. Of course I couldn’t help myself, and while our Schwans man was at the door we went ahead and ordered some raspberry lemonade and pecan pie. It took all of 2 minuted for him to grab those out of his truck and be back at our door. Freshness delivered to me – I could get use to this! Plus Schwans has a reward system now! 5% back online for every order placed. Sweet deal.
Along with the Giveaway today Myesha has more savings for you when you visit www.schwans.com
    myesha2 for $5 off a $25 order or $10 off a $50 order.
    or
    myesha15 for $15 off a $75 order
Our next sponsor is one I’ve been crushing over for awhile. When they said they would love to be part of this giveaway, I was like a giddy school girl. GoneReading is THE place to shop for all your reading accessories and gifts for readers. Not only can you find some pretty awesome products, like Oh these Open Book Platters that you can serve up your Schwans on, but all after tax profits go to fund libraries and reading related charities!  And there you go – my 3rd favorite thing in this world, doing good for others with no expectation back for you.

    Mental Health Giveaway Hop
    March 20th to 27th
I have to say I was really excited when Kathy announced the Mental Health Giveaway Hop. If you’ve been following me, you’ll know I’ve been volunteering with Project HEAL – Utah chapter this year.
Project HEAL is seeking to raise awareness for Eating Disorders and raise money to help those with an eating disorder get the help they need. I’ve learned quite a bit about eating disorders over this last year. I use to believe eating disorders were a lifestyle choice, but I’ve come to learn different. It is a mental illness, and triggers are different for everyone. For some it may be about weight, for others it’s about control.
During NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association) week I had the opportunity to read Be FreEd by Mallory Faye. Mallory suffered from an eating disorder at a young age. She is now recovered and goes around the country speaking to schools about the risks of eating disorders and helping those struggling to find the help they need.
Her book relates her story, and gives advice to those struggling. I hope this book will help one of you. Whether you are struggling or someone close to you.
Read my full review of Be FreED on Kathy’s site.
Don’t forget after entering my giveaway, hop on to the rest!
  • New book by author Dan O’Brien

New book by author Dan O’Brien

You’re never too old to have one more adventure
Brought to life by Steve Ferchaud’s vibrant drawings, this story for all ages by Dan O’Brien lets us know that it is never too late to have one more adventure.
    An Excerpt:
Robert Pendleton opened one eye as the light of a passing car flashed over the window, shattering the darkness into prisms. He rolled onto his back on the beat-up couch and yawned as he reached his hands up and rubbed his eyes unceremoniously.
He looked out over the darkness at the digital clock. The red digits spelled out a quarter ‘til midnight––nearly fourteen hours of sleep. He smiled and grabbed one of the cushions of the couch, burying his head in it. Just enough sleep, he reminded himself. Robert felt that anything less than twelve hours of sleep was very nearly too little.
He grasped blindly for the TV remote.
Groaning as he lifted his head, he looked at the empty table––his eyes drawn by another flash of a passing car. He couldn’t see clearly, but he knew that the remote had been there before he had fallen asleep nearly half a day ago.
“Could have sworn….” he mumbled as he pushed himself up and brushed his hand around the top of the table, finding nothing. “Where did….”
Another groan escaped his lips as he lifted his body to a sitting position and threw aside the cluster of pillows that he had gathered around himself. He reached out for the lamp, but instead knocked it to the floor with a resounding thud.
Robert muttered as he stood up from the couch, and then sank to his knees to search around in the darkness for the fallen lamp. Reaching around on the shadowed floor, shards of the broken lamp scattered like pieces of light.
He turned his head, peering beneath the large space underneath the couch and saw the reflection of the buttons on the remote. The off-gray piece of machinery was underneath the couch––only darkness lingered beyond it. He reached out as he spoke again.
“How did it get all the way down there?”
Robert flexed his hand and strained as he twisted his back to reach farther; yet, the remote remained just out of reach. He pulled his arm away with a huff and craned his neck to the side, staring underneath into the darkness below the couch.
His eyes widened as he saw the impossible: there was something beyond the remote. He shook his head and closed his eyes, whispering to himself that he didn’t see what he thought he had.
“I saw a little man,” he whispered to himself as he opened his eyes once more and nearly gasped as he did so.
The figure was closer now and he could make out the outline clearly. A tiny man rested just beyond the remote.
    “What in the name of…?”
“Not here in the name of nobody, laddie. I be a friend though,” crooned the miniscule figure as he interrupted Robert and stepped forward, placing a hand on the darkened and slick surface of the remote.
A tam-o’-shanter crested his bright red hair, the shaggy mane blending perfectly into his equally crimson, neatly trimmed, beard.
A billow of whitish smoke drifted from the long-stemmed pipe that he held clenched between his lips.
Robert fell back and knocked aside the adjacent table. Rubbing his eyes, he spoke a single word: “Leprechaun.”

  • 2 Sandwiches with Bagel Thins and Sandwich Thins

2 Sandwiches with Bagel Thins and Sandwich Thins

*This post is sponsored by Sandwich Thins®, Pocket Thins® and Bagel Thins ®. They provided me with coupons and a gift card to try the products mentioned. All thoughts are my own*

I was so excited when I heard about Bagel thins, Sandwich thins, and Pocket Thins. The gears in my head started turning, as I dreamed up this bagel sandwich with ham, asparagus, eggs and hollandaise sauce. I could practically taste it before I ever bought the ingredients.

Then I started thinking about the Sandwich and Pocket Thins, and I was brought back to my childhood. I remember my mom stuffing sprouts into a pita pocket with my ham and cheese. I thought it was the best thing ever. I haven’t put sprouts on my sandwiches in forever, so I knew I was creating a treat to take me back home.

Unfortunately I couldn’t locate the Pocket Thins in any of my local stores *sad face*, so I decided to make do with the Sandwich Thins.  These are great because they contain zero grams trans fat, are cholesterol free, and have no high fructose corn syrup. Plus my favorite thing about them is their thinness. I mean I love sandwiches, but sometimes the bread takes over from being able to taste all the other yummy goodness, am I right

I hope you enjoy my adult version of my childhood favorite!

Start by gathering all your ingredients:

    • Sandwich Thins: Healthy Multi-grain Rolls
    • Stonemill Kitchens Artichoke & Parmesan
    • Deli meat – whatever your preference is
    • shredded cheddar
    • shredded Romaine
    • sliced  tomatoes
    • Alfalfa Sprouts

I was a little worried pulling the top and bottom apart, but they came apart very easily.  Next spread 1 tsp of the Artichoke Parmesan on the bottom half.

Add sliced tomato, followed by your choice of deli meats. I used Honey Turkey and Chicken.

It’s looking so yummy!  At this point, layer with shredded lettuce and cheese – as little or as much as you desire.

Now you’re ready for the finishing touch, and highlight of the sandwich – Alfalfa Sprouts (or whatever sprouts you prefer). Be generous.

Top with the other half of the Sandwich Thin, and then sit down, and really enjoy.

Sandwich Thins and Pocket Thins come in a variety of flavors including
100% Whole Wheat, Healthy Multi-grain, Honey Wheat, Flax & Fiber
Connect with Sandiwch Thins on Facebook and Weight Watchers

Ready for the next Sandwich?  This one uses Thomas Bagel Thins.  It wasn’t until I pulled the mix for the Hollandaise sauce out that I realized my idea wasn’t that original. I was making basically Eggs Benedict.  When I researched what exactly Eggs Benedict was though, I came across a list of variations. My sandwich wasn’t exactly any of the variations either, so I combined two to give this sandwich it’s name – Oscar Eggs Benedict.

This was some serious yum. It was hours later and I could still taste the melding flavors from this deliciousness. I hope you enjoy.

    Ingredients
    1. 1 Plain Bagel Thin (they also come in 100% Whole Wheat, Cinnamon Raisin, and Everything)
    2. 1 slice of Ham
    3. 3 Asparagus Spears
    4. 1 egg
    5. Knorr’s Hollandaise Sauce
    6. Stonemill Kitchens Artichoke Parmesan
    7. Garlic Pepper
    Instructions
    1. Open your Bagel Thin and spread 1 TBS Artichoke Parmesan on the bottom half. Set aside
    2. Heat 1 TBS Olive Oil in a medium frying pan.
    3. Break the Asparagus Spears in half and add to the oil.
    4. Sprinkle with a dash of Garlic Pepper.
    5. Fry for about 5 minutes. Remove asparagus, and set aside.
    6. Break your egg into the pan, and add the slice of ham as well.
    7. Fry your egg however you desire. I prefer a soft yolk, but others don’t. If you want it more Benedict traditional, poach your egg. I was going for quick and easy.
    8. Meanwhile cook the Hollandaise sauce according to package instructions. Or make your own – The Pioneer Woman’s recipe looks pretty simple.
    9. Place the ham on the Bagel Thin, top with asparagus, egg, and Hollandaise sauce.
    10. Add bagel top and enjoy.

    Giveaway with Thirty-one

I have been looking forward to this week all month long!  It’s Organizing the Kids Bedroom week!  I’ve been struggling myself to get the kids room organized to a point where the kids and I both can easily pick up and put away everything without taking a full 24 hours to do it.  The kids are overwhelmed, I’m overwhelmed – and that leads to just mess on top of mess.

So I decided to reach out to some of my favorite bloggers when it comes to home decor, organization, and just some good tips. I hope you enjoy all the posts this week, and find something that will work for you!  I’ll update this list all week with links to the new posts.
We kicked the week off today with a guest post from my friend Rachael.  She is sharing today on how Thirty-One products have helped organize her life. Rachael wants to help you get organized and relaxed, so she is kindly offering up this awesome Keep It Caddy in black floral stuffed with bath lotions, shower gels, and a $15 gift card to Mary Kay redeemable through her.
