    Weekend Bites in December

Hey we’re back, and I hope you are too! Maybe you noticed we took a little break from Weekend Bites last week, but we thought you’d all enjoy spending the time with your families instead of looking for parties online. Of course, if you were, we apologize, but we were spending the time with our families. Albeit, I was spending last week under the weather as well, so the kids were reigning the roost. It’s Decemeber though, so we’re back and ready to see all of your winter and holiday shares.

Here are my favorites from the last party!

    Thanksgiving Prep at Weekend Bites

I love Thanksgiving! Partly probably because it is in the fall. Also because of the food. Mostly, however, it’s because of the wonderful memories that surround this holiday for me. Friends and family gathered together filling our home with love and laughter. It’s the feeling I’d love to always have in our home, no matter the occasion or person visiting. So when Thanksgiving rolls around each year, I can’t help but get excited, and start looking at ways to create those memories of love and joy for my own children.

I hope these ideas from our fellow bloggers will inspire you, and offer a little something to add the spirit of gratitude and love into your own home in the coming week.

Try one of these Fall Soups tonight! Yum!

I woke up this morning to a chilly 34degree day. Half my kids bundled up in coats, scarfs, and gloves. The other half attempted to convince Mark and I that the sun was shining and that meant it was warm. It was a beautiful sunny day, but the temperature had dropped to that place where all I want to do is sit in front of a fire and eat some hearty soups.

I found these delicious looking soups in last week’s party and can not wait to give them a try! Especially the ones that uses cauliflower in place of cream – it’s brilliant! Which of these soups will you start with first?

Grab these hors d'oeuvres for Thanksgiving! Every Thanksgiving my family would host dinner for anyone and everyone that didn’t have a place to go. People showed up anytime they pleased and until dinner was ready the tables were set with hors d’oeuvres. So much so, that we turned it into a contest. There was the kids category and adult category, and any was welcome to add a dish, or just enjoy and vote.

This year I’m hosting Thanksgiving! I don’t know if we’ll continue the hors d’oeuvre contest or not, but just in case we do I’ve got to start planning! So this week’s features are all about the hors d’oeuvres. The beautiful thing about them is that it can be anything, as long as it’s easy to eat.

Last week you may have wondered what happened. I was still getting back into the swing of things after our family vacation to Kirtland, Ohio. So when Thursday night rolled around I had completely forgotten the day! I did post the party on Friday, but it looks like at that point I missed all of you. The fun thing about slow weeks like that, though, is that I get to go back to past parties and pick more of my favorite links to feature! This week I’ve been working on being a better housekeeper amongst other things, so I found these ideas for decor and clutter control very helpful and fun. I hope you do too.

skip the cold cereal and try one of these Breakfast goodies instead.

If you haven’t noticed, each week my features tend to revolve around one common theme, and it’s usually around something I’m particularly interested in that week. For the last few days I’ve been thinking about our breakfasts. I’ve become a bit of a lazy mom throwing cold cereal at my kids almost every day. Sure they love it, and would prefer I keep it going…but I don’t know how many more bowls of cereal I can take! So I made the decision that from now on, we’d have cereal only every other day.

This means I actually have to plan breakfasts, though. Some days I’m sure will be fine, others may be hectic and full of complaining children, but they’re refined taste buds will one day thank me. After all, yesterday I fed them a blueberry smoothie with broiled english muffins. They thought they were going to hate it, but have now asked for english muffins with every single meal since. Take that cold cereal!

So today I find myself once again sharing your recipes that are personally helping me in my life goal of nixing the cold cereal for something better, at least 50% of the time. Enjoy!

Get creative this Halloween with these ideas

Creeping and crawling, October has arrived. I gave my kids a deadline of telling me by October first what they wanted to dress up as for Halloween this year, and they never could decide. So it looks like this year we probably won’t win the family costume, but they’ll still have fun putting something together from the costume box.

Instead of focusing on costumes this year, I can put my efforts and creative skills into decorations and deliciously creepy foods. Check out these great ideas that were shared at last week’s party.

Look for these Autumn flavored breads at Weekend Bites

Yesterday marked the first day of Autumn. It also marked the first day I became a mom – 10 years ago. I was hoping the weather would be similar, and maybe we’d see a little snowfall like I did from the hospital window that special day, but alas, summer isn’t ready to let go. In fact summer thinks it needs to be extra hot right now, and not give any hint at Autumn. So since the weather is uncooperating, I figure I can at least turn to my favorite fall treat, and one that reminds me of my own mother – sweet breads!
