Get back to the homemaking basics at Weekend Bites

Do you ever feel like the art of homemaking has been lost? I sometimes feel like we’ve become so reliant on technology and the ease of access we have to things that the simple things like baking, sewing, and a little elbow grease have been a bit lost. Of course, then I see a plethora of you sharing the simple and sometimes complex homemaking skills that I love. Enjoy these back to basics.

Fall is in the air, and as my oldest likes to inform me so is her birthday. She was born on the fall equinox so it makes this an exciting month in our house. Fall happens to be my favorite season of the year, and it’s an exciting day to celebrate the birth of my first-born who turned me into a mother. I thoroughly enjoyed browsing the link-up last week and picking out these very fall inspired shares to feature. I hope you enjoy them too!

Debi informed me earlier this week that it is our 100th Weekend of hosting Weekend Bites together! Now some of your have been here awhile, and know I’ve been sharing this link party for many more than just 100 weeks, but I believe a little celebration is in order for making it 100 Weekends with Debi. There have been many times I wanted to call it quits, just to simplify my life, but then I think about all the fun things I would miss from all of you, and the more infrequent connection I would have with Debi, and I just couldn’t do it. I’m so glad too!

So just how are we going to celebrate? Well, I was thinking a little present should be the first business. So how about this School Bus Platter? Isn’t it just the funnest little dish you’ve ever seen. I don’t know about all of you, but I’m celebrating the fact my kids are back in school as well. It’s been a pretty nice 3 weeks so far!

Most likely, school has started by this point in your neck of the woods, and if it hasn’t it will be soon! Getting organized is on everyone’s minds – or maybe I’m just weird. Where are we going to put all the papers that come home? What can we do to help the kids be more efficient and responsible for their work? How can we encourage their desire for learning? And what will make school just a little more fun?  All of these questions are answered in Weekend Bites! At least hopefully you’ll find some inspiration from these wonderful posts from last week.

Earlier this morning, I made an announcement. In the event you missed it, let me share again – Baby #5 is on its way and due March 2017! I’m both excited and terrified to be starting this mothering thing all over again. When Lincoln turned 2, I was pretty sure we were done. I couldn’t imagine adding any more. I was mentally and physically exhausted. So we got rid of EVERYTHING! The crib, the baby clothes we’d kept forever, blankets, toys. All gone. It would seem my memories of being pregnant were also altered. I don’t remember being so sick – blah.
So today, you get my favorite links from last week based on what looks appetizing and exciting to my 1st trimester pregnant brain! Aren’t you excited! Check them out, then don’t forget to share what you’ve been up to lately.

Have your kids headed back to school yet? The “First Day of…” pictures have begun trickling through my facebook newsfeed. My kids start this coming Tuesday! That’s only 4 days left at home now. I would lie if I said I was sad summer was coming to an end, but I’m not. It’s been a long summer, and the kids are so ready to have some space to breathe without a sibling getting in their face. I’m pretty happy about it myself, but mostly because for me it means back to a good daily structure. I really slacked off this summer and we’ve been staying up late, sleeping in, and eating haphazardly. School means back on track, and setting good routines to follow.

I don’t know why, but I’ve been craving some homemade bread lately. Usually, I save bread making for the winter when I don’t mind spending the day in a warm kitchen. It’s been a warm summer here, but also very rainy. Maybe it’s the rain that has me heading to the kitchen to bake up one of these loaves, or maybe it’s just been too long. Check out these fantastic bread recipes!
