Family Friendly DIY Halloween Costumes
Every year when I start browsing Halloween Costumes, I’m reminded just how non-family friendly a lot of these pop-up Halloween costume places are. From the sexy women’s costumes to some gruesome and terrifying outfits, I find I just don’t enjoy browsing through them all for kid and family friendly costumes.I no longer shop Halloween stores but instead browse the thrift stores and our own closets for our DIY Halloween costumes. It’s helped pull the family together in a fun search for that perfect piece that will turn into a winning costume at every party.Aren’t these all so fun!! One of my fondest – yet oddest – costumes as a kid was dressing up as a shower. I’m sure my parents thought I had gone crazy…but then again, maybe it was their idea for keeping things cheap? I digress though – check out the tutorials, and tips for making these fun Family Friendly Halloween costumes by following the links!DIY Inside Out Characters – from Home Maid SimpleDIY Planet Halloween Costumes – from delineate your dwellingCampfire Costume (and more!) – from kitchen fun with my 3 sonsGuess Who Characters – from costume worksStar Wars Fighter Ship – from Kate’s creative spaceThe Man in the Yellow Hat and Curious George – from The Chirping MomsDIY Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle – from Crafts by CourtneyWhat are your kids dressing up as this year? Star Wars Costume
*This post is sponsored. I received product in exchange for an honest review*In 2 months the ghosts and goblins, Princesses and Knights will be roaming the streets looking for candy. Are you ready for Halloween? Usually I like to wait until October 1st to even think about decorating and finding costumes for the kids, but this year my mind has been ahead.Princess V has a birthday coming up the end of September, and lately she has been obsessed with Star Wars. Before our move we borrowed the original trilogy from a friend, and had a Star Wars marathon. What I wasn’t prepared for though, was her particular attachment to Darth Vader.With her birthday coming up, and Halloween a short month after I thought maybe a new dress up is what she needed. While browsing Costume Discounters new arrivals, I found it – a simple Darth Vader cape and mask in their new arrivals. It also comes with a sound box so she can actually sound like Vader.All the kids were excited to find a new costume added to their dress up box, but Princess V was most definitely thrilled. Perhaps her attachment to Vader is because they both start with the letter V? Or maybe being the oldest child she has a hunger for power. I’ll probably never figure it out, but I couldn’t be happier with the joy a simple black cape and mask brought to our house.What will you be dressing up as this year?

Halloween Costumes – Think About It!
Welcome back to Think About it Thursday!Hosted byandToday’s Topic IsWhat was your most Memorable Halloween Costume as a Child?Before I jump into todays topic, I just want to give a Birthday Shout Out to Eschelle, blogger at Mumfection. I have loved getting to know this Canadian blogger. We bounce ideas off each other, and she has given me a lot of support here at Home Maid Simple. So please, go check her out, and tell her Happy Birthday!I’ll be honest, I can think of many “memorable” costumes for me. I tried to think outside the box. Most years as a young child I was a witch. Princess C is taking over that for me this year.I’m really at a toss up for my most memorable costume. We did a lot of home made, what we could find around the house costumes. I remember one year in middle school, my aunt made a packet of pea seeds (or possible green beans). It was basically a large bag with head and arm holes cut out, and then painted to look like the front of a seed packet.Another year, and one of the only times I remember trick or treating, my BFF and I dressed up as housewifes. We wore old jeans, t-shirts, aprons, and a bandana over our hair. Truth be told….now that I am a house wife, I tend to look like that a lot minus the bandana. Maybe it’s time to pull out my bandana’s again! I’ve still got my Red Hot Chili Pepper bandana, complete with beaded ends!Though both of those are pretty memorable in my mind, I think my most memorable costume, was my completely crazy out of the box idea. I went as a shower.Yes, a shower, or possibly a person taking a shower. It was pretty simple really. We bought a hula hoop (or maybe we cut mine down smaller), attached a shower curtain. Then I believe through the use of a hat and hangers, got it to balance on my head, with me inside. Thus a shower.Seriously, I don’t know what I was thinking. I probably got a whole lot of weird looks as people asked me what I was. I guess I could have made it more scary if I added the shadow of a hand holding a knife to it. That may have been a more brilliant idea, but nope. Just me, inside a shower, getting strange looks.Thinking about it now, and I’m reminded of the newer Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie. Yep that was me, but behind a shower curtain, and minus the braces.

Halloween is Coming – Wholesale Costumes {Review}
I love Halloween time. It means fall has come and the holiday season has begun. It means pumpkins and apple cider and dressing up.
When I was a kid, I tended to go for most creative costume. Often times I was a witch, but when I branched out, it was really crazy! One year I went as a shower. Yes you read that right, a shower. Man I wish I had pictures of that. Another year my best friend and I went as Mom’s – apron, duster, and head bandanna were our costumes. There were also the years I was a crow and pack of pea seeds.
I kind of miss dressing up. I know I know, I still can, but I rarely do. I do get to dress up the kids though. And that is so much fun! I have let them decide their costumes, though, so the crazy creations I came up with won’t embarrass them.
With all three Princesses crowding around me, we went browsing for Halloween Costumes for the girls. Princess V picked the last costume we got, so I really let Princess C take charge this time. We decided to go with one of our favorite cartoon characters – Strawberry Shortcake.Our first impression was great! It comes packaged like any other Halloween Costume you buy at the store. Once opened though, I was a little concerned about the size. We ordered a small, after checking out the handy sizing chart offered on their site. I wanted to make sure it fit Princess C, and could then be passed to Princess R. After Princess C tried it on, we realized quickly, it was not going to fit her. She is on the upper size for her age, but I was still hoping. The leggings and hat, were actually perfect for her, but the dress itself was closer to the smallest size.So after I let her wear it for awhile, we handed it over to Princess R. Oh my heavens! I didn’t think I’d ever get that dress off her. I think she wore it for a straight 48 hours, only taking it off to sleep. This dress will last her a couple years!We experienced a couple snags in the silky fabric, but I’m sure it’s from Princess C stretching it out. It has held up extremely well to the abuse Princess R puts it through pulling it on and off, and running all over the place.You can check out more Wholesale Halloween Costumes, and find something fun before the holidays hit.*As a Costume Reviewer affiliate I received a free product to facilitate this review. Princess Peach Costume
*In accordance with FTC guidelines. I did not receive any financial compensation for this post. I was provided with the product for my honest review. All opinions expressed in this post are my own!This last month I had the opportunity to review a costume from the Costume Super Center. It’s a great place for cheap Halloween Costumes!We got to pick the costume for review, so Princess V and Princess C and I sat down and browsed their huge (and I mean HUGE!) costume collection. It was really hard deciding, but when we came across the Girls Deluxe Super Mario Princess Peach Costume, we knew we had a winner! It was decided and within a week we reveived our costume. We opened it right away and within seconds it was on Princess V and it was not coming off anytime soon.The quality is just amazing! We so often in our society associate the word cheap with poor quality. The Costume Super Center offers cheap halloween costumes, that are also well made and will last. When ordering the Girls Deluxe Super Mario Princess Peach Costume, I was struggling with their site (ok my computer was actually just acting funny) so I was unable to find how they measure the sizes. I ordered a medium so I would hopefully not be too big or too small. It was perfect! It is just slightly bigger than Princess V (4 years old), so she should be able to wear it for at least 2 years maybe more!Now so you’re wondering, they do have a size chart, and it’s really easy to locate and size for each costume (I did go back once we got the computer back up to par!)I just can’t help posting all these cute pics!The Girls Deluxe Super Mario Princess Peach Costume comes with the dress, gloves, and crown. Everything a Princess needs!The Costume Super Center has a great selection of kids costumes ranging from the decades, to movie characters, to the scary stuff like zombies. I can’t wait to go back and get something for Princess C and Princess R for this fall. I may not even wait until the fall. These costumes are great for every day dress up, not just Halloween!
