  • Hot Fudge Butterscotch Brownie Milkshake #FoodieFriday

Hot Fudge Butterscotch Brownie Milkshake #FoodieFriday

Brought to you by Home Maid Simple
    and Simple Living and Eating

Happy Fathers Day Weekend!  I got the idea for this milkshake from eMeals Fathers Day Menu. They had these yummy looking photos and a recipe for Caramel Brownie Chunk Milkshakes that just made my mouth water. Now I know how much Mark loves milkshakes, but he loves them loaded! So I made some twists of my own, to create this Fathers Day treat.  Enjoy

    Hot Fudge Butterscotch Brownie Milkshake

    Ingredients
    1/2 cup Milk
    4 cups Vanilla Ice Cream
5 brownies (I made Rodelle’s Football Brownies, and just skipped shaping them)
    Hot Fudge Sauce
    Butterscotch Caramel Sauce
Honey Coated Dried Banana Slices, chopped
    Directions
Blend Milk and Ice Cream in a blender until smooth. Add 2 1/2 brownies, and continue blending. Add in about 2 TBS of the Hot Fudge Sauce, and blend once more.
Pour the milkshake into cups. Drizzle with more hot fudge, butterscotch sauce, and top with banana slices. Enjoy.

Stuck on what to make this Fathers Day?  Check out some of these recipes from last week’s party!

From left to right, top to bottom

Bacon & Cheese Savory Bread from Will Cook for Smiles
BBQ Chicken Pizza from Call Me PMC
Caramel Brownie Chunk Milkshake from eMeals
Grilled Herb Pork Chops from Miz Helen’s Country Cottage
Chocolate Banana Pudding Pie from The Home Heart
Sliders with Mushrooms, Swiss Cheese and Onion from Feeding Big

In Mark’s opinion, you should ask your Father how he likes his steak, and cook him up a nice slice of steak, served with real homemade mashed potatoes, and some sauteed mushrooms. I guess I know what we’re having this Sunday.

    Come see where I Party!

  • 5 Best homemade Fathers Day Gifts

5 Best homemade Fathers Day Gifts

I just love Fathers Day! Holidays like this one, though make me want to get a little more simple and homemade. We buy nice things for birthdays and Christmas, but when it comes to celebrating parenthood, I like it to come a little more from the heart. These 5 homemade Fathers Day Gifts speak to Dad from the heart of children.

5 Best Homemade Fathers Day Gifts

    1. Car Shirt from The Blue Basket
Perfect for the overworked Dad taking naps on the floor. Minimal effort for Dad, but the kids will remember an activity like this their entire lives!
    2. Tie Basket from Me – directions below.
An easy way to keepsake kids handprints while making a useful treat basket for Dad.
    3. Father’s Day Photo Collage from Positively Splendid
I love this sentimental display of love from children. This would be great for any Dad’s office desk, or nightstand
    4. Father’s Day Treat Jar from My Sisters Suitcase
One of my favorite LDS Children’s hymns is “I’m so glad when Daddy comes home”. Putting the words onto a jar full of kisses will make anyone smile.
    5. Father’s Day Shirt and Tie from Paper Crave
Sometimes a good mix of homemade and store-bought is needed. These treat bags are the perfect way to wrap Dad’s gift.

Last year I had fun putting together the Tie Basket with the Princesses. They got to put their hands in some paint, and leave their mark around the terra cotta pot.  I cut a simple tie out of fabric and hot glued it on. We then filled it with Mark’s favorite treats.

I absolutely love all these ideas I’ve come across over the years – and thanks to Pinterest can actually find again!. This year I did something similar to Positively Splendid’s Photo Collage. Instead of a single collage though, I made a photo book .  Included in it, I asked the Princesses a few different questions about their Daddy. Things like

What’s your favorite thing about Daddy? and Why is Daddy your Superhero?

I learned that I need to talk to them each separately. Otherwise, they end up all saying the same thing

Daddy gets us apples and bananas when they’re too high.

I had so much fun making this book for Mark, and going through old pictures of the kids. Now I’m trying to make one for my own Father and Mark’s Dad. Unfortunately, I’m always a little late on my timing, so the photo books are going to get here after Fathers Day, but they will be worth the wait!

  • Styling Facial Hair #FathersDay

    Styling Facial Hair #FathersDay

*I received products for review. All opinions are 100% my own and Mark’s*

Ever since I’ve known Mark he’s had a thing for facial hair. I grew up with clean shaven men, so it seemed weird to me when Mark liked to sport around different facial hair styles. One of the first times we hugged, I remember his prickly whiskers tickling my neck. I remember just laughing at how they felt.
Well over the years, I’ve let him experiment, without too much feedback. We have a saying here “it’s your hair, do what you want with it”.  Which means I can cut or grow my hair how I want it, and he can do the same with his, including facial hair. Just check out some of these different styles he’s sported!
Mark has obviously rocked out in some fun styles, and some crazy ones as well. The key for him, is having fun with it, and experimenting. I asked Mark for a few tips to share with you after he also tried out the H30 and H50 Razors from 800razors.com.  Here’s what Mark had to say –
    – The number of blades doesn’t really matter. You need to find a razor that suits you, and then stick with it. (He found the 3 blade, H30, easier to use, while the 5 blade H50 was too bulky and missed a number of hairs).

    – Shaving is all about Moisturizing.

    – To avoid razor burn use the right moisturizer, facial or hair conditioner. I personally prefer and use Hair conditioner, and rarely if ever get razor burn.

    – Apply the conditioner, then the shaving cream and shave away.

    – Remember to have fun with it, and try different experiments. If it doesn’t work out, you can always shave it all off, and regrow.
So to all the Dads out there, if you’ve ever wanted to try growing some facial hair like Seneca Crane (Hunger Games), now you know how an expert facial hair artist gets his looks! Although, ps. Mr Crane’s was painted on…but go ahead, give it a try!
In a post about facial hair, I can’t help but also mention the Man Beard, recently made popular by Duck Dynasty. I am a fan of the show, but cringe every time I see those so called Man Beards. Mark has talked about growing his own Man Beard since we started the show, and I give him our usual response “It’s your hair, you can do what you want…..but don’t expect me to kiss you”.
If you have similar feelings to my own, razors would make a great Fathers Day gift! One thing we do love about the H30 and H50, is their cost comparison. These blades are American made, comparable to the Mach3 and Fusion razors, but for half the cost.
*We received razors from 800razors.com to try out. All thoughts and opinions are 100% our own.
  • Because I’m Your Dad #BookReview

    Because I’m Your Dad
    by Ahmet Zappa

About the Book:  This is a cute story about all the things a Father will do for his children. Some unrealistic – like skipping school to fly to Australia – but that represent every Father’s desire to do the very best for their child while having fun.
About the Author: The son of late rock musician/composer Frank Zappa and, as he puts it, “My awesome mother, Gail.”  Ahmet grew up with a learning disability and now writes books to help children discover how wonderful reading can be. He and his wife, Shana, are currently collaborating on a new book series, Star Darlings. Through his production company, Monsterfoot Productions, Ahmet has developed several television shows and movies, including “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.” Ahmet, Shana, and Halo live in Los Angeles, California under a rainbow with their three fur goblins Sandwich, Luna, and Figgy.
My thoughts:  I absolutely loved this fun children’s book. Even more so, because it sounded funny with me reading “Because I’m Your Dad”, so I got to pass it over to Mark.  Listening to a dad read this story to his children, and know that they truly would do anything for them, was very heart warming.
The Princesses really got into this book, and have enjoyed Mark, and even myself reading it to them. Thought they love looking at it on their own as well.
Because I’m Your Dad would make a wonderful Fathers Day Gift. I personally love to give gifts that Mark can enjoy with the kids on Fathers Day, since they are the reason we get to celebrate him (similar thoughts for mothers day).  There seems to be very few books specifically for Dad’s to read to their children, so I’m pleased to add this to our collection.

  • Shave Well Fog Free Mirror {Review and Giveaway}

    Shave Well Fog Free Mirror {Review and Giveaway}

Fathers Day is coming up and if you haven’t found that perfect gift yet, maybe look into this! The Shave Well Fog Free Shower Mirror is something every dad could use.  Nothing extravagant. In Mark’s words “It’s just a mirror”.  No bulky radio attached, or any other silly perks. “It’s just a mirror”.

The Shave Well Company has designed a simple slim mirror that will stay fog free, so your man can shave in the shower with ease. The mirror comes with a hook to hold the mirror, but Mark seems to prefer just holding it.

To keep the mirror fog free all you have to do is hold it under the shower water for a bit. Once the mirror is the same temperature as the air in the shower it will stay fog free. The simple science makes total sense.
    SW under shower spray

Mark’s previous mirror worked the same way but it would slowly start to fog up. The Shave well lasts most of the shower before it needs another run under the water, and really unless you have a lot of shaving to do you’ll only need to run it under once for your fog free experience.
Already have your fathers day gift?  This mirror is nice for women too, for any face cleansing they do in the shower.  I personally love that this mirror takes up so little space in our shower compared to our last bulky mirror/radio combo.

We had a funny experience with this mirror one morning. Since we don’t use the hook, we just prop it up against the shower wall when it’s not in use. Well one morning we went to grab it, and it had gotten pushed up against the wall, and somehow suctioned itself to the wall. We slid that thing all over the shower trying to get it loose, so we could use it.  I wondered to myself at the point if we should pull out the hook just for that purpose, but Mark still likes to leave off the hook. He says it has the kind of sticky back that is impossible to come off. Normally we wouldn’t mind, but since we may be moving soon, we’ve decided to leave it off the shower.

    and

Sunday is Fathers Day here in the USA, I’m not sure how world wide this holiday is, but I like to make a big deal out of it. I’m a Daddy’s girl through and through, and I’m married to a man that is a pretty awesome Daddy to our kids.  I’ve also been privileged to have a wonderful Father in Law.
I’d show you what I’m getting Mark, but I want it to be a surprise for him (and I have no idea if he’ll read this post).
On to our recipe for the week. When I married Mark I quickly learned one of his favorite meals was Meatloaf, and his favorite veggie is carrots. So what do I have for you today?
Stuffing Meat Loaf with Steamed Carrots
    Ingredients
    2 lbs ground beef
1 16oz Stove Top Stuffing Mix (any flavor)
    1 cup water
    2 eggs
    1/2 cup barbeque sauce, divided
    Direction
    Preheat oven to 400 F.
Mix all the ingredients together, leaving 1/4 cup bbq sauce aside.
Shape the meat into 4 small loaves. Place them side by side on a baking sheet.  Top with the remaining bbq sauce.
Bake 30 minutes or until cooked through. Cut each loaf in half to serve. We enjoy ours with steamed carrots mixed with a little melted butter and salt and pepper to taste.
Nutrition Info (how cool is this! I wrote down the nutrition info, but forgot to write down where I got the recipe)
    252 calories
    4g carbohydrate
    0g dietary Fiber
    13g Fat
    25g Protein
    3g sugar
Since we’ve got this Fathers Day Theme, I asked Mark to pick out this weeks features. He felt a little overwhelmed with all the recipes to go through, but he narrowed his choices down to the following.

Sausage Cheese Balls from Momma of 4 Cutiez
Creamy Cauliflower Penne from Everyday Vegan Girl
Thank you everyone for linking up last week! If you were featured grab the button to display on your blog!

  • Sentimental Sunday – Happy Fathers Day!

Sentimental Sunday – Happy Fathers Day!

I love fathers day.  The special opportunity to show my dad and my husband what wonderful fathers I think they are.

    To my dad,
I love you so much. You taught me how to be strong, and always faithful.  I have so many fond memories of our special times together.  I remember getting a daddy date and watching a movie, just the two of us (I don’t remember the movie, just that I got you to myself).  Then getting up early one morning to go to the dairy farm with you.  So many summers spent in your classroom setting up and taking down wall displays.  When I was in college, I fondly remember driving between home and school while you tried to teach me some dutch. I wish I could remember some, but the time spent meant the world to me. Now that I have my own kids, I love seeing their smiles as you threaten to eat their toes, or send a spider up their leg.
Thank you dad for the many nights you got up to give me a fathers blessing. For being a strong priesthood holder who I always could and still count on for advice and love.  I’m so glad I get to be your daughter forever!
    All my love
    Adelina

    To My Husband,

I am so glad we met, and that you fell in love with me so quickly. Thank you for always being by my side. We’ve had our highs and lows, but I believe everything has made us stronger as couple.  I can’t imagine life without you, or what I was even doing before I met you. You have a sense of honor that I just love, my true knight in shining armor.
You are such an amazing dad to our Princess’. Upon waking up each morning, their first question is usually “Where’s dad?” I hope that never changes. I hope you can feel their love as much as I see it every day. They truly are “Daddy’s girls”.
Thank you for all you do for our little family in providing for us, and leading our home.
Sprinkle All My Kisses on your head,
    Adelina
