  • Meals when you Move

Oh menu planning, how I miss you!

This week is moving week. We get our Uhaul on Friday, and we’ll be gone on Saturday. That means a lot of packing, and quick meals this week.

When you’re getting ready for a move, you don’t want to be spending your time in the kitchen. Normally that’s where most of my days are spent, but it just can’t happen this week. I have other things that have to be done. Paper plates are the only thing on my grocery list this week. I don’t want to move a bunch of perishables either.  That means I’ve got to plan meals that use up everything in my fridge and freezer.

Lunches for the week are going to consist of a lot of leftovers!

    Dinners
    Monday – Pasta and Meatballs
    Tuesday – steak pizzaiola
    Wednesday – Chicken Nuggets
Thursday – Surprise! whatever is left that needs to be eaten
    Friday – pizza out
Saturday – ? maybe a nice new neighbor will bring us a meal. Or we’ll find a local place to eat out
    Sunday – Sandwiches

Have you ever moved? How did you work out meals?

  • Where Ever We Go We’ll Make it a Home

Where Ever We Go We’ll Make it a Home

This post has been in the works for a few weeks now. At first I was a little too emotional to talk about it. Then I felt it should wait until Mark’s current (at the time) contract was up. I’m past the emotion, and his contract is up. So here it is…
Mark resigned from teaching band at the local high school. He finished out the school year, but we are now looking for a job elsewhere.
My initial reaction was to look at every school close to where we live. I DID NOT want to move. We just bought our house last year. We have put a ton of work into making it our home. We’ve dealt with flooding, termites and a kitchen remodel. We love the neighborhood. We have some great friends, and the kids love it here too.
When it became clear there weren’t really any jobs nearby, I got myself ready for the idea of moving. I began looking at our home and what needs to be done to sell and not lose money on the home. You can expect many posts in the near future on prepping your home to sell.

You could say that I am actually pretty excited about moving now. Yes I will miss this home, and our community here, but I am ready for another adventure. We’ve applied all over the country, and have had many interviews the past two weeks.  We will continue to apply and interview until a job is offered.
The funnest part for me, is that I don’t have to interview. I just get to send Mark off to do that, while I browse house listings in the area. Since most schools start in August, we will have to be ready to move mid to end July and I want to know the areas and what’s available to us. I’ve been using Zillow’s Ipad App to check out listings. I really love their App (the website could use a little help though). You type in the area you are looking to live, and a map pops up with little houses scattered across it. You can edit the price range, sq footage, bedrooms, etc to get just the listings you’re interested in.

No matter where we end up, we will make it our home.
I’m taking guesses on where we’ll end up. We’ve pretty much applied across the country, so guess away. Will we find something close enough to commute, or will we move across the country?
*Incase you’re wondering this is not a sponsored post. I like Zillow a whole lot, and it just happened to work it’s way into this post 🙂 If you’re looking for a home, I suggest you check it out, but I’m not being compensated for it at all.
  • What a mess!

    What a mess!

Now that our basement remodel is finished we have done a big old switcheroo! We put Princess C and Princess V in the master room, Mark and I have taken one of the smaller rooms, and the leftover room will eventually be the baby’s room, but for now, gets to hold all the junk items we do not have a spot for quite yet. This switch has been messy, still is, but I have seen progress!

     The Princess’ new room
After finishing the switch, this is what the basement now looks like – AHHHHH! That will be tomorrow’s to do list.

Our new Master Bedroom (hello Princess C)

Storage room soon to be baby’s room. We may have to do some painting if this turns out to be a boy.
I obviously need to find a more organized way of switching things around. Of course, when I took all the toys downstairs I did go through them all, and I have a box to donate. I also had it all in boxes, but 5 minutes of the girls down there, and BAM what a mess. My next chore will be figuring out how to organize the toys so that they stay organized.
  • Tuesday Tip – moving

I know, I know it’s been awhile since I’ve done a Tuesday Tip.  I started them, and then got so busy with house hunting and moving, that I just never got back to them.  So todays tip

When you’re moving, do it all in one day!  I’m so serious, the longer you take moving your stuff the longer it will take to feel like you are home.  We had the whole month of April to move in, and we took the WHOLE month of April.  I was at the apartment for a couple hours Saturday (the 30th!) trying to get it all clean to avoid any extra charges.

Another problem with the slow moving, is that regular life still goes on.  You still have to cook meals, clean bathrooms and floors, and make sure the children get the attention they need and deserve.  So you don’t have time to slowly unpack all the boxes.  If you do it all in one day, you normally have someone else there to help watch children, you grab some takeout, and you get it all moved and unpacked quickly.
If I had a good working camera, I might have shared a picture for motivation. As it is you’ll just have to take my word for it.  Move in one day (maybe two), but don’t spread it out, you’ll regret it.

  • We’re Moving!!!

    We’re Moving!!!

I really had doubts that this would ever happen!  But it is!  We are moving into our first official home this week!  We’ve got lots to do, and not a lot of time, but I believe it will all go smoothly.  Here’s my checklist –
Tuesday – sign papers, officially close
Wednesday – get keys between 3-5pm.  Start moving the storage unit. 7pm Dad’s coming to help move large items from the storage unit.
Thursday – Finish off storage unit (really, why pay another month if we don’t have to?)
Friday – Start painting the kids rooms.  We’ll paint the rest of the house as we live there and figure out our style
Saturday – Finish painting, start removing mice infested shelving in cold storage room
First full week in April is Spring Break (Mark is a school teacher, so yay!). We will move the rest of our stuff, and spend time unpacking and enjoying the new home.  I’ll get out in the garden that week if the weather is nice, and see what kind of good stuff is growing, and what I want to plant.  I’m open to suggestions for a first time gardener!

Here’s a teaser of what will be Princess V’s room

Way too much color for me.  It will probably end up all pink, or all purple. We’re letting Princess V choose.

And just a reminder, Friday is April 1st.  That means our Big Moving Event will be kicking off.  We’ve got at least 5 giveaways (may end up with 1 or 2 more).  So make sure you come back for your chance to win!
