PLan your New Years Eve Party at Weekend Bites!

Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017! I don’t know how your year went, but mine was most assuredly what it feels like to be on a rollercoaster. This year we took a ride in an ambulance (still paying that bill off), went to my first blog conference, had a girls weekend in Colorado, became pregnant with Baby #5, suffered through depression, totaled a car, and learned what water looks like when your water softener blows. To be honest, I loved 2016. We stayed in the same house the whole year, and have no current plans of moving in 2017. Despite the crazy that happened, I learned and grew a lot. So let’s give 2016 a big shout for joy, and enter 2017 with a grin ready to take on whatever may come.

How did you all know we were heading into birthday season here? So many of you shared delicious looking cakes, cupcakes, and ice cream I had a hard time choosing this weeks features. We kicked off our birthday season with Princess C’s 8th birthday this week. It’s sort of a week long celebration since her birthday was Tuesday, and she’ll be getting baptized on Saturday, so family has slowly been trickling in to see us and celebrate. Next week is my brothers birthday, and then the week after is Mark’s and his nephews. I can’t wait to put all of these recipes to good use in the coming weeks.

Alright, who is headed to a party this weekend? My nephew invited us over to watch the Super Bowl with his family after church on Sunday. While I’m tempted to just show up, Best Ever 7 layer Bean Dip in hand, I should probably talk to his parents and see what they’re plans are. Kids are so fun though, and I of course will take any excuse to hang out with my niece and nephews.

Last weekends party was a hit with the party dips! From the ever popular chili cheese dip, to a healthier spinach dip, I think there’s something everyone will love here today for a little dipping fun. If you’re looking for something a little more sweet or romantic, Debi is featuring Valentines Desserts this week.

Decorate for Christmas while enjoying a Peeps® Hot Cocoa Bar + WIN a Package of Holiday PEEPS®

This is a sponsored post. The PEEPS® and PEEPS & COMPANY® products, information, and additional gift pack have been provided by PEEPS® and PEEPS & COMPANY®. All opinions are 100% my own.

Decorate for the holidays, or go caroling  and invite everyone back to your place for a hot cocoa bar, made all the more merry with Holiday Peeps®. It’s an easy no stress party, you just have to set out!

Decorate for Christmas while enjoying a Peeps® Hot Cocoa Bar + WIN a Package of Holiday PEEPS®

I was looking outside last week and realized we’d kind of neglected our outdoor space. We’ve been so busy, there just hasn’t been time to care for it like I’d like. Knowing we had a fairly nice day coming up on Saturday I started making plans. I had my package of Holiday PEEPS® on hand, and Mark the day off. Friday night I made sure the inside of the house was clean, so Saturday we could spend the whole day outside!

I sent the kids out with rakes and trash bags to work on the leaves, gave Mark the job of hanging some Christmas lights up, and I took to preparing the Hot Cocoa bar. The kids kept running over to check out each package of PEEPS® I pulled out, and therefore got very little yard work actually done.

Decorate for Christmas while enjoying a Peeps® Hot Cocoa Bar + WIN a Package of Holiday PEEPS®

Christmas trees, Reindeer, Snowmen, Gingerbread Men that smell amazing, and Peppermint covered PEEPS®! The kids could NOT wait to get started on this party. “I want that one! Can I have 2? How about one of each!?” I worked as fast as I could, but I also wanted them to get yard work done, so I definitely made this a party worth waiting for. Adding a touch of red ribbon around the styrofoam cups added a perfect holiday feel without being over board or too complicated. I matched them with green straws for a well rounded Christmas look.

Decorate for Christmas while enjoying a Peeps® Hot Cocoa Bar + WIN a Package of Holiday PEEPS®

The Hot Cocoa was finally warm – but not too hot – the cups were ready, and our PEEPS® were looking fabulous. All the kids had to do was pick their favorite creamer flavor, and which PEEPS® they wanted on top. Then the fun really began.

Decorate for Christmas while enjoying a Peeps® Hot Cocoa Bar + WIN a Package of Holiday PEEPS®

Later this week, or possibly next I plan on doing some caroling. It’s a great way to get the kids learning some Christmas songs, and the perfect opportunity to meet our neighbors and take them some little gifts I made. Who knows maybe some of them will come caroling with us creating a snowball effect, and then we’ll all come back here for more hot cocoa and PEEPS®! This could also be fun to do for an early morning teachers meeting, or work party.

  • Currently In October

    Currently In October

I’m very thrilled to be back this month sharing what I’m currently up to. It’s been a few months since I last joined Choose Happy’s link party. I’d love to hear what you’re currently up to!

Reading.. The Astronaut Wives Club. Our book club picked this one for September, but I didn’t quite finish it then. I’m still in the middle of it, and really enjoy taking a peek into the lives of the Astronaut’s families. It’s a great reminder that no matter how famous someone is, life isn’t always perfect, and people are people no matter what.

Ponderizing.. In the recent LDS General Conference, Elder Durrant coined a new word “Ponderize”. It’s a mix of pondering the scriptures and memorizing them. This week I’m ponderizing Doctrine and Covenants 130:18-19

Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection.

And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his dilligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come.

Making A List.. I have never been a list person. No particular reason for that, it’s just not something I’ve done. Until now. My life has had so many roads going through it now, that I’ve decided it’s time to start making a list. Hopefully it will organize my brain so I don’t forget things, and I’ll feel less like a crazy person.

Chaperoning.. I’m going on my first school field trip with Princess V this week! Ever since the kids started school, I’ve wanted to chaperon a field trip. I found a babysitter for Little Prince so Thursday I can hang out with 3rd graders at Conner Prairie. A month ago Little Prince and I checked out this cool place, so here’s a photo from that day.

WOW!! 50 weekends of sharing good food with all of you! I’m feeling nostalgic, so let’s take a little look back.  Almost 4 years ago, in January of 2012 Diane from Simple Living and Eating joined with me as we started the weekly Foodie Friday hop.
    remember this?
After a fantastic 3 year run, we decided to change the name to Weekend Bites. Shortly after the name change Diane left as my co-host to pursue other interests. I debated shutting down our weekly party, but decided to reach out to a fairly new blogger, Debi from Practical Parenting Ideas. She was immediately on board, and has brought a lot to the behind the scenes of this party. In fact, her newest idea you may have already seen – Instagram Features! We will now be taking the features and sharing them with our instagram followers, giving you 2x the love! Woot Woot!
While Weekend Bites has only been going for 50 weeks, the party has been here for so much longer! To those who have been linking up since the beginning, thank you! You make this party every single week, and it is for you that I continue on. I love seeing your delicious food, and trying as many recipes as I can.

  • Tea Party Birthday

    Tea Party Birthday

Princess R turned 5 last week. She’s such a doll! Her only request was that she get watermelon. I thought it would be fun to throw her a little tea party with a few friends, and of course, some Watermelon.

We started by using these adorable tea party invitations Mark drew with charcoal. The kids are pretty lucky to have such an artistic Dad. Knowing they were hand drawn, to me, adds a perfect touch of class to the invitations.

    DOWNLOAD Tea Party Invites

When the girls arrived, we put on our favorite matching Lemon Flirty Aprons (affiliate link). The girls loved matching while keeping their fancy clothes clean.

For tea time, Princess R requested Watermelon, peanut butter sandwiches, and Princess brownie bites we found in the When Life Gives You Kids cookbook. We’re totally loving the recipes in here this spring! Little Prince has requested the mud cookies because there is a worm and a dump truck in the photo….but I digress!

Tea Parties, especially the birthday sort, should always be a bit more fancy don’t you think? So although the Princess wanted watermelon, I felt they should be fancy watermelons. Turns out, cutting shapes in watermelon is easier than I imagined, and perfect to get the kids involved with.

Cut your Watermelon in 1/4-1/2″ slices. Then grab your cookie cutters, and make some cute shapes. The bunnies were a favorite, especially with the thicker slices, since then they could stand up. We, of course, did this pre-tea party so fancy dresses would not become sticky. The fun shapes were then easily and cleanly devoured by 3 small Princesses and a little Prince.

You may be wondering about the tea in the party here – well we don’t actually drink tea here. So Princess R chose green Koolaid and our fancy Disney glass cups – the ones I only allow for special occasions. It worked for us, and our guests.

After the food, I let the girls play whatever suited their fancy. I find at this age, having a specific party plan and activities are kind of moot – they’re happier when they can do their own thing. We pulled out dolls, books, and coloring. The coloring won out over everything, and everyone went home with their own picture.

Yesterday I posted about the Little Prince’s birthday. Time sure flies! Today happens to be Princess R’s birthday. This cute girl is 5 today. She has the spunkiest personality I know, and although keeps us on our toes, she is brilliant beyond belief for her age. She is constantly surprising me with the things she says, and what she knows.
We had a little tea party with her friends today, so I thought it would be appropriate to feature some Tea Party worthy recipes from last weeks party. Enjoy!
