If you’ve ever seen Doctor Who, you may get my reference. If not, I’m sorry. You should go watch it. In fact as a special Halloween treat to yourself, you should most definitely watch the episode titled The Doctor Dances.

Family Friendly DIY Halloween Costumes

Make it a DIY Halloween year with these fun and family friendly costumes for everyone. This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you click on and make a purchase through them.

Every year when I start browsing Halloween Costumes, I’m reminded just how non-family friendly a lot of these pop-up Halloween costume places are. From the sexy women’s costumes to some gruesome and terrifying outfits, I find I just don’t enjoy browsing through them all for kid and family friendly costumes.

I no longer shop Halloween stores but instead browse the thrift stores and our own closets for our DIY Halloween costumes. It’s helped pull the family together in a fun search for that perfect piece that will turn into a winning costume at every party.

Aren’t these all so fun!! One of my fondest – yet oddest – costumes as a kid was dressing up as a shower. I’m sure my parents thought I had gone crazy…but then again, maybe it was their idea for keeping things cheap? Oh so many good recipes were shared last week. I finally narrowed it down to some Halloween goodies to feature for you. I’ve pulled my minimal Halloween decor out this week, and the kids are raving about our Family Costume idea. We’re going as the emotions from Inside Out. Since there’s 6 of us though, and only 5 emotions I’ll be dressing up as Bing Bong. I’m pretty stoked about how it’s coming together, and can’t wait to show you later this month.

Star Wars Costume

In 2 months the ghosts and goblins, Princesses and Knights will be roaming the streets looking for candy. Are you ready for Halloween? Usually I like to wait until October 1st to even think about decorating and finding costumes for the kids, but this year my mind has been ahead.

Princess V has a birthday coming up the end of September, and lately she has been obsessed with Star Wars. Before our move we borrowed the original trilogy from a friend, and had a Star Wars marathon. What I wasn’t prepared for though, was her particular attachment to Darth Vader.

With her birthday coming up, and Halloween a short month after I thought maybe a new dress up is what she needed. While browsing Costume Discounters new arrivals, I found it – a simple Darth Vader cape and mask in their new arrivals. It also comes with a sound box so she can actually sound like Vader.

All the kids were excited to find a new costume added to their dress up box, but Princess V was most definitely thrilled. Perhaps her attachment to Vader is because they both start with the letter V? Or maybe being the oldest child she has a hunger for power. I’ll probably never figure it out, but I couldn’t be happier with the joy a simple black cape and mask brought to our house.

This week you all, this week! Last Friday I came down with what seemed like the flu, but by Saturday it was just a sore throat. A really really bad sore throat that turned into laryngitis. Mark has been recovering from a pretty bad cold himself that lasted about 2 weeks. I was finally starting to feel a little bit better Thursday morning, when 2 of my kids woke up with Pink eye. Definitely pink eye! Currently child 3 has started in on the symptoms, so to be safe and kind to everyone – we’re all staying away from people.

My poor kids though, it means missing our church Halloween party which was looking to be quite a blast. We’ll just have to make our own fun here at home, and I found quite the inspiration from you all last week.

Caramel Apple Cupcakes
It’s Friday and day 5 of our Halloween Bash blog hop! Glad you could join us on this fabulous Friday for more Halloween ideas from me and my talented blogging friends! Today I’m sharing these fun, delicious, but most importantly EASY Caramel Apple Cupcakes. It’s just not Halloween without some caramel apples right?

Caramel Apple Cupcakes everyone can enjoy with less mess.

Ingredients

Spice Cake Mix

3 Medium apples

1/4 cup brown sugar

Cream Cheese Frosting

Caramel topping

Popsicle sticks

Instructions

Peel, core and slice 2 of the apples into bite size pieces (I seriously love my apple peeler/corer/slicer for this!). Combine the apples with the brown sugar in a frying pan. Cook up until the sugar is dissolved, and the apples are soft. Set aside.

Mix the spice cake batter according to directions. Fold in the apple mixture.Fill cupcake liners 1/2-3/4 full.

Bake according to the cake’s directions (or whatever spice cake recipe you’re using). Let cool.

Core and slice the 3rd apple. Frost the cupcakes, top with an apple slice, and popsicle stick. Drizzle the caramel across the apples. You may actually want to do that before adding the sticks….

*Tip* Do not add the sliced apples and caramel until just before serving, otherwise the apples will start to brown and look unappealing. Enjoy!
