    Gift Differently This Season

This post was inspired by FTD’s Gift Differently initiative. I was sent product, however, opinions remain my own.

There’s always that one person you don’t know what to give for Christmas. They seem to have everything they need, and when asked they say they don’t need anything. It’s time to think out of the box and gift differently.

    Gift differently this season.

I’ll share a few of my favorite gifts from over the years that were also unique and out of the box ideas. Hopefully, you’ll find something to give last minute or add to your list for future gift giving opportunities. I’d also love to hear your unique gift ideas to add to my list.

    Gifts of Experience

Maybe not so unique these days, but giving a gift of experience is something I always appreciate. I remember one year my parents bought us season passes to a local theater. Each month we got to go see a different musical performance, and often it included meeting the performers during an intermission or after the show as we looked, and sometimes bought, their CD’s. I still have my Yoon Kwon CD and the Nashville Bluegrass Band C. The experience is still fresh in my mind, despite it being close to 20 years ago. I treasured those outings with my parents. This year I’ve been considering looking into our local theater for a year of passes for our family.

    Handmade Gifts

Now, handmade gifts are definitely on the rise these days. As long as you put your heart into them, and remember who you are gifting to, a handmade gift will stand the test of time. There are three specific gifts from my childhood, that while I no longer own, the memories surrounding them will always remain. The first are the wooden stilts my dad built us. I never did master the skill of stilt walking, but heading outside with my brothers and racing to see who could take more steps before falling off is another memory I will forever treasure. Then there was the year my mom built us a TeePee. You can now find these all over the interwebs, but having it handmade by my mom was something special. The last handmade gift I recall was from my oldest brother. He took the time to build me a springboard. Oh, how I loved that for the 2 days it lasted. The board wasn’t quite strong enough for the number of kids that loved jumping on it, but those 2 days were bliss.

    Gifts of Memory

I love giving gifts that remind my loved ones of a memory shared. That’s why I made my mom the throwback Thursday card a few years ago. When you live far away from family I find it harder to give gifts that they want, or need. This year I called up my sister and sent her shopping for my parents. However, that wasn’t before I did a little browsing on FTD.  I fell in love with the Let In the Light Rosemary Tree. This gift was one full of memories. The Rosemary reminded me of the many herbs and plants my mom grew. It’s cute little Christmas tree look reminded me of the years spent hiking through trees finding our perfect tree for the year. We never did fake growing up. It also comes with recipe cards, which brought back a myriad of memories spent in the kitchen with my mom, my siblings, my grandma, and my aunts.

Gift differently this Season with FTD. How do you gift differently this season?

These Snowman Blocks were made possible by Dixie Belle Paints. All opinions are my own.

Simple and quick to make, these Snowman Blocks add the perfect decor to your front porch during the winter season. Especially if you’re lacking in the actual snow.

DIY Snowman Blocks add the perfect touch to your porch decor.

I actually made these Snowman blocks five years ago with a friend, but after many moves and different weather extremes, they were looking a little sad. Actually, they were more than sad, they were downright pathetic looking. Most of the buttons had fallen off, and the white paint was no longer a pretty white.

Sad Snowman Blocks needed an update with Dixie Belle Paints. ad

Awe, poor snowman family! I almost didn’t pull these guys out this year, but then I got Dixie Belle Paints and decided to give them a nice update. Well, if I’m being totally honest, I personally didn’t update them. My eye for detail is not always the bet on objects like these. I can add buttons and sew up hats and scarfs, but painting details…not my strongest skill set. So I enlisted Mark’s help.

    DIY Wooden Snowman Blocks

    • 4×4 wooden blocks, varying sizes
    • Dixie Belle Paints
    • Santa Hats
    • Plaid Fabric
    • Paintbrush

To make your snowman blocks we found it handy to already have the Santa hats attached to the snowman. To do this, all you need to do is hot glue around the top of each block, and press on the hat. However, you can also save this step for last. It just made a nice grip for holding the snowman up while painting on various sides.

Paint your wooden blocks with white Dixie Belle Paint. This fantastic paint has a fast dry time so that by the time we finished our last block, our first block was dry and ready for the details. Continue adding details with various Dixie Belle Paint colors, to create your snowmen. Each of our snowmen is sporting a fun face, 3 buttons, and 2 gloved hands. Our middle snowman got lucky and received some pockets.

Once the Snowmen are painted, cut strips of your plaid fabric to tie around the blocks as scarves. It’s the finishing touch that takes the snowman family from cute decor to a whimsical addition to your home.

  • Enjoy the Simple Moments this Holiday with Clean Floors from Bona

Enjoy the Simple Moments this Holiday with Clean Floors from Bona

Christmas is coming and the halls have been decked. Our tree is up, the lights are coming to the outside of the house, and stockings will be hung on Christmas eve. Currently, my biggest concern is keeping the house clean in the midst of baking cookies and pulling out the holiday decorations. I’d love to enjoy more of the simple moments, and spend less time stressing about the cleaning.

Enjoy the simple moments this holiday season with a 15 minute floor cleanup from Bona. #BonaSimpleMoments #ad

The one thing I never wanted was a house full of hardwood floors. They look fantastic, especially with Christmas decorating them. However, the upkeep of hardwood floors is not something especially easy. So what’s a 27-week pregnant mom of 4 to do? Well, this is how I enjoy the simple moments during the holiday season, while also cleaning the floors in under 15 minutes.

    Simple Moments Step 1:

Ask the Husband to help. “Honey, I can’t clean the floors today. There are too many, the kids are too dirty, and baby belly says I’ll never make it back up.”
OK he says…. a week later, you realize just how bad the floors have become. I get it. He has a full time job, and as much as the floors need cleaned, spending time as a family not cleaning is probably more important this season anyways.

    Simple Moments Step 2:

Ask the Kids. “Hey kids, I just swept up this mess! Hang up your coats, put your shoes away, do NOT wear them around the house after you ran through the mud/snow. Please oh please will someone clean up this mess?”

You wonder if anyone listened as they ran past, and tried to decide if you should get down on all fours and spot clean the tracks you hope are just mud. Remember that you are quite pregnant, and as the OB has told you twice now “measuring large”, and decide it’s not worth getting stuck on the floor and having a 4 year old attempt to help you up.

    Simple Moments Step 3:

Buy Bona Floor Care products, and clean your whole house in 15 minutes. Dust and mop those hardwood floors from a safe standing position!

Do something right for you, and buy Bona floor products. Enjoy the simpler moments of life. #bonaSimpleMoments #ad

That’s right, do something right for you this holiday season. I am so incredibly impressed with the Bona wet and dry system. My first step was to take the  Dusting Cloths and give a full once over to the whole house – well every room but our 1 carpeted room. So much dirt and dust! After this very simple step, Mark walked through and said “Hey! The floors look shiny.” To which I replied, “Thanks, I’ve only dusted them.”

Dust your floors with Bona and see them shine #BonaSimpleMoments #ad

After the Dusting Mop did it’s job – in less then 5 minutes, might I add – I pulled out the wet cleaning pads. Bona specifically makes pads that are safe to use on hardwood floors, and leave no residue behind. The last thing anyone should worry about during the holidays is whether their cleaning products are doing the right job.

Ta-Da! We now have clean floors, that I did, all me, by myself, throughout the entire house! I may not completely despise living in a home with hardwood flooring now with how quick the cleanup has become. Plus, it’s hard to look past the simple touch a hardwood floor can bring to a home.

After a Bona floor cleanup, enjoy a simple moment your way. #BonaSimpleMoments #ad

Personally, after such ‘grueling’ work I took a moment to put my feet up, grab a mug of hot cocoa, and watch our son enjoying the Christmas tree. He just loves looking at all the ornaments and telling me about his favorites.

If you’d like to enjoy a Bona Simple Moments, head over to their Facebook page and enter to win either $100 worth of Bona products OR a $150 Spa Finder Gift Card. A trip to the spa sans husband and kids sounds like another perfect moment to enjoy after the holidays are over.

  • Winter Car Emergency Kit

    Winter Car Emergency Kit

This winter car emergency kit has been made possible by meori. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

With winter, comes the potential for an emergency situation where you are stuck in the car. From minor accidents like fender benders to larger ones such as sliding off a slippery road and getting stuck in a snowdrift. With a winter car emergency kit, you and your passengers will have the comfort needed in any crises.

Be prepared this winter with a car emergency kit! Here's everything you need. ad

Thankfully I’ve never been in a terrible accident, but  I have had my fair share of winter emergencies where this emergency kit would have been extremely handy. I’ve tried to keep things both practical and useful. After all, who wants to carry extra ‘stuff’ in their car all winter long. Not me! Four kids and all their ‘stuff’ that seems to end up in the car is more than enough extras.

So I’ve gathered everything you might need in an emergency – whether big or small – and compacted it into the meori foldable box with two compartments. I love that meori has CAR printed on it already, making it easy to see for everyone, including the husband, that this box belongs in the car.

Prep your winter car emergency kit before bad weather hits. ad

So what do I have in my winter car emergency kit? Let me tell you.

We fit everything but the blankets into a backpack for ease of carrying if we actually have to leave the car somewhere. So far that has not occurred, thank goodness! The backpack itself then fits nicely inside one compartment in the meori box, while the other side fits 4 fleece blankets. Together it all fits snugly in the bag of my Honda Pilot. If you know anything about the pilot, the trunk space is probably the only downfall. Being able to store a fully loaded emergency kit with room leftover is quite impressive.

The meori box has proven to be quite durable. ait’s quality made and holds up well to a large semi-unorganized family. The car box has been fantastic, but that’s not all they have. I’ve used meori to organize inside the house too! Just check out these other uses for inside your home.

  • When Kids Refuse to Clean Their Room Get a Hefty Helper

When Kids Refuse to Clean Their Room Get a Hefty Helper

When the kids refuse to help clean their own rooms, it’s time to grab a helper you can trust. I turned to Hefty for its exceptional performance and strength I knew would be needed!

GRAB A $1 OFF HEFTY COUPON HERE

When the kids refuse to clean their rooms, grab Hefty to be your helper. #HeftyHelper #HeftyHeftyHefty #ad

In this room, 2 of our children share the space. I always thought one was fairly on top of keeping her stuff up and organized and knew that if I asked her to go clean up, she would. The other child would cry, complain, and the proceed to become distracted by all the cool stuff she was hanging on to.

As it turned out, my super awesome helper was just stuffing everything under her bed. Doh! I thought as I attempted to hold her mattress up with one shoulder, and fit my slowly growing pregnant belly between the frame, that I sure could have used the strength of WWE Fighter John Cena. I imagined him coming in and easily holding the mattress aloft while I took my time to get every last toy and piece of garbage out that I could find.

Dreaming of John Cena helping you clean under your kids mattress? Me too. Try Hefty to get the strength needed. #HeftyHeftyHefty #HeftyHelper #ad

She had at least done a good job of stuffing it all against the back wall so it wasn’t apparent unless anyone actually really looked under there. My so-called messy child turned out to have very little under her bed, other than items I could tell had only accidentally fallen beneath. Give me bad mom of the year for comparing the two, when in fact, they’re pretty equal in their cleanliness. Some just hide it better than others.

Have kids who can not bear to part with anything, including garbage? Try cleaning with Hefty. #HeftyHeftyHefty #HeftyHelper #ad

So what do you do when the kids really and truly refuse to clean up their mess? Well, this is what I did.

    Give them a timeline

I told the girls that they needed to get their room clean, and if they didn’t I would come in and clean for them. Now, I probably should have put a timeline on it, but I figured I’d just take the next day I wasn’t too busy and do it. Turns out that gave them a full month to clean. Throughout this month I would give them friendly reminders.

    example: “Mom I’m bored”
“Well, I haven’t cleaned your room yet. Why don’t you do it, before I can?
                     “Nevermind”

    Invite Them to Help

I had finally found the perfect day that I could mentally and physically clean their room. I thought about doing it during school hours but chose to wait until the kids got home. By doing this, they could see exactly how I cleaned up the mess – eliminating the excuse “It’s too hard”. This also offered the opportunity for them to join me in cleaning their mess and absolved me from any tears for what may come up missing later.

At least twice one of them came in to talk to me, and I invited them to help. They wanted to play in their room, but I let them know their option was to help me clean or to find another room to play in. Say this with kindness, and no expectation that they will actually help. Who know, maybe your kids will actually stay to help.

Know What is Important and What is Not

I promised the girls when we moved here that I would no longer get rid of their toys without their permission. With our many moves I had gotten in the habit of picking and choosing what they could keep and not while downsizing our living spaces. So I knew I couldn’t throw out anything important. In fact, the only thing I could throw out was the garbage. Of course, I got to decide what was garbage, but as their mom, I knew what would be too emotional to let go of, and what I could get away with trashing.

Start making piles. One pile of trash. One pile of donations. Everything else should have a place in the room.

    Get Hefty

I don’t know about other kids, but I have a very recycling conscious child. She loves creating things out of boxes, and whatever else I toss into the recycling bin. Of course, I am perfectly fine with this, IF she would not then leave her treasures strewn across her room. I knew I’d need something strong to hold all the potential garbage I would be finding, so I picked up some Hefty kitchen trash bags in Clean Burst Scent. After all, if I was going to clean their room for them, I would want it to smell clean too. With Arm & Hammer’s patented odor neutralizer, you’ll want to grab these bags too.

Use the Hefty Ultra Strong bags for gathering your different piles. With the active tear resistant technology and break resistant grip drawstring, you can really fit a lot into these tough bags. I fit at least 3 decent sized cardboard boxes into our designated trash bag, something that I have seen easily rip trash bags in the past.

When the kids refuse to help, grab a Helper who cares! #HeftyHeftyHefty #HeftyHelper #ad

You all know I love a good deal too! So I was pleasantly surprised when Hefty’s new tougher bags were at a new low price! Add on the downloadable $1 off coupon from iBotta and these bags are practically a steal! Head over to Hefty to get your coupon, and then go do a little bedroom cleaning yourself.

Teaching Kids to Clean with a Bathroom Cleaning Station

This Bathroom Cleaning has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone.#ScrubTheMess #CollectiveBias

The last thing any pregnant momma wants to do is scrub the toilets, at least this one. I’ve been teaching my kids how to clean since a young age, and this year has been no different. So today I’m sharing with you my Bathroom Cleaning Station.

Create a Cleaning Station and never Miss a Mess again! #ScrubTheMess #ad

It was a jump for joy moment to find that there was a new Scotch-Brite® Disposable Toilet Scrubber on the market! There’s not much about bathrooms that make people shout for joy, but us Mom’s know the real victories in life. A clean bathroom, HELLO! It’s like one the best feelings in the world, am I right? The Disposable Toilet Scrubber means no more wet toilet brushes being left in the bathroom. A simple click of the button and the scrubber is in the trash.

Have you seen? NEW Scotch-Brite® Disposable Toilet Scrubbers and refills are at Kroger. #ScrubTheMess #ad

After our rental with the moldy toilets, I get sensitive about having our toilets spic and span. So for the last few year I’ve been specifically focusing on teaching the kids how to clean the bathrooms. My 6-year-old happens to be the most fantastic bathroom cleaner you’ve ever seen, and when given the choice of cleaning her room or the bathroom, she’ll always go for the toilets. With a little supervision, like when we clean the toilet, she’s phenomenal.

Check out these Elegant Bathroom Ideas

So now that the kids know how to clean the bathroom, I decided it was time to make a checklist. With a wipeable checklist, I don’t have to hover when I send them to clean the bathrooms anymore. Instead, I can just hang out – haha – and wait until they finish everything before I head in and make sure it is all done. This awesome checklist allows the kids – and even forgetful grownups – to visually see what needs to be done, and double check that they got it all.

Download this FREE Printable Bathroom Cleaning Checklist for kids! Laminate it for a wipeable surface to use over and over again. #ScrubTheMess #ad

Click Image to Download and Print

I won’t lie, the kids are really good at spiffing up their bathroom. It’s organized and looks from the surface pretty clean. Sometimes, though, I will find rolled balls of wet towels in the corner from their attempt at wiping off the counter, or cleaning around the toilet. So to combat that, I created the Bathroom Cleaning Station. Hand in Hand with the checklist, the kids can now see which cleaning product should be used where, and I can make sure it all got done.

    Bathroom Cleaning Station

    Supplies

    • Small box or Basket – same size as the back of the toilet works perfect
    • Scotch-Brite Disposable Toilet Scrubber and Refills
    • Wet Wipes
    • Glass Cleaner
    • Printable Checklist and corresponding Images
    • Dry Erase Marker

Alright, so the kids have cleaned the bathroom -minus the toile – and grabbed me for an inspection. Things are looking pretty good, but the one area I let them skip is the toilet. Of course, they think it’s fun to do, but I prefer they get me before finishing it up so we can use the Disposable Toilet Scrubbers properly. The New Scotch-Brite Disposable Toilet Scrubber was designed to reach the messes we’ve been leaving behind – like under the rim – an often attempted spot to clean, but frequently missed.

New Scotch-Brite® Disposable Toilet Scrubber is designed to reach under the rim! #ScrubTheMess #ad

Now if we ever live in a rental with those nasty moldy toilets again, I know I can trust Scotch-Brite in my bathroom cleaning arsenal. With its built-in bleach alternative cleaner with pumice – rust and hard water have no chance! You can pick up the New Scotch-Brite Disposable Toilet Scrubber and Refills at your local Kroger.

  • Teaching Phone Etiquette with Ooma Telo and a Sweepstakes

Teaching Phone Etiquette with Ooma Telo and a Sweepstakes

Who still owns a home phone? About 7 years ago we got rid of ours. It was expensive and we had smartphones after all.

Then I had kids. And those kids started getting older. A recurring theme I heard this year from my 2 oldest was “I want my own phone! When can I get a phone?” To which Mark and I had always replied, “When you can pay for it”.

Teach kids phone etiquette with the Ooma Telo. #ad #HelloOomaSavings

The Ooma Telo, however, is an affordable option that allows kids the freedom to call their friends without using Mom and Dad’s minutes. The girls had finally resigned themselves to n-e-v-e-r having their own phone when I surprised them with Ooma. Chloe’s reaction was priceless!

You mean it’s for me! I get a phone? And I can call people whenever I want to?!

Well, yes for the most part. After a couple trial runs, I realized that because we have relied on smartphones for so long, with ready caller id, always attached to us, and limiting when the kids could make phone calls, I had neglected to teach them proper phone etiquette. So yes Chloe, you can call whenever you want to, after you study your etiquette.

Learn Phone etiquette with Ooma Telo #ad #HelloOomaSavings

    Print these Phone Etiquette Reminders

You are probably wondering what makes the Ooma so affordable, and why I chose to go with their service after 7 years of no home phone. Well, it’s like this see. With Ooma Telo, after you buy the product ($99.99) the only thing you pay in service fees are the taxes which range from $4-7/month. Who remembers how much they paid for home phone service? Maybe you still have a home phone and are still paying those exorbitant fees along with your smartphones.

Ooma Telo is the smart home phone families love. #ad #HelloOomaSavings

Ooma is not your average home phone, though. No, Ooma takes your home phone and turns it into a smartphone, with an online portal that allows you to check your call logs and voicemail from anywhere. With the Free Ooma App you can easily set call forwarding or just have the app ring when someone calls.

When you upgrade to the Premiere Plan for $9.99/month it turns your whole home into a Smart Home! Ooma connects to Amazon Echo, Nest Products, and smart Lightbulbs from Phillips and LIFX. Speaking of which, Ooma is currently running a Sweepstakes where you could WIN an Ooma Telo, one year of premiere service, a Nest Protect Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector, and one LIFX Smart Lightbulb and Nest Thermostat.

    OOMA TELO SWEEPSTAKES

So I looked at what our current smartphone provider charges per month, and put that in Ooma’s calculator. In 3 years I would save $806 by using Ooma, and in 6 months it will have paid for itself! Now it’s your turn! Head to the simple calculator on Ooma then tell me in a comment what your savings are. Comments left on this post will be entered to win the Sweepstakes.

  • Knock Out Dad’s Honey-Do List

    Knock Out Dad’s Honey-Do List

I received product from Pfister for review. All thoughts are completely my own.

Fathers Day is tomorrow, but if you’re like me, finding the perfect present can be hard. Instead of a tangible gift this year, why not take care of the honey-do list yourself, and give Dad a break.

Give Dad the gift of relaxation and knock out his honey-do list for him. ad

There are certain things Mark loves, and nice appliances are one of them. As renters, we usually just deal with what we have, but on occasion we’ll update a faucet and suddenly the house feels more like our home. When we had the chance to update the kitchen faucet to a Pfirst Series Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet, we were both pretty excited.

We had the faucet, and I was waiting for a day that Mark had off to get it installed. After all, that’s what our husbands are supposed to do right? Home improvement is usually the majority of what is on their honey-do list. I remember when we first got married, Mark would tell me to make him a list, and I hated it! I didn’t see value in giving him a cliched “honey-do list” of things I was probably capable of doing myself. So rather than a honey-do list, I just made sure whenever there was a home improvement project we did it together.

Pfirst Series Pull-Down Faucet from Pfister is EASY to install! ad

It seemed many of our faucets always needed to be replaced. Often the cause was from a leak, but sometimes we replaced them purely for the visual aesthetics. That’s what our most recent update was. We had actually replaced this kitchen faucet when we moved in with a cheapo – and we got what we paid for – little water pressure, and a mixed up hot and cold because the plumbing was too short.

With Pfister Faucets, you don’t get that. At least we didn’t. Mark’s day off came, and he was saying how he should probably get it installed. I thought for a moment, and then said “No! I want to install it!” Of course, I thought he’d help me, but I believe he was so exhausted from his 12 hour work days, he could trust me to install a faucet. After all, we had done it multiple times together in the past.

What I love about these kinds of projects, is it really doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out. Pfister faucets come with easy to read directions, including pictures for the visual learners. I sent Mark to the couch and I started unpacking the sink cabinet. Out came an old towel to lay my head on, and a couple flashlights strategically placed for ease of viewing.

In 1 hour, I had turned our boring kitchen sink into a little piece of art with an elegant featured piece. I only had to redo it once when I realized the large black tube in the box was the tool I had needed to tighten the extra large washer. When working with plumbing, I’ll tell you right now, it’s never a good idea to say “oh well, I guess finger tight is good enough”.

1 Faucet 2 Features. Stream or Spray with Pfirst Series Pull-Down Faucet from Pfister. ad

The thing that surprised me the most about our new faucet was the water pressure. The last one never had such a consistent amount of water, with the right pressure for me. The kids are completely fascinated by the dual feature, though. It’s only one faucet, but it also turns into your sprayer. Mark loves the new look as well, but he also appreciates that instead of working on his day off, he was able to take a nap instead. Cross that off the honey-do list!

  • Patriotic Rag Wreath

    Patriotic Rag Wreath

Be proud to be an American, and hang a Patriotic Rag Wreath on your door this summer. So easy, even small hands can get involved making it.

Show your Patriotism with this Patriotic Rag Wreath

I saw this awesome Rag Wreath over at Sassy Sanctuary, and just had to make one.  She actually makes a lot of stuff that I want to someday make, but for now we’ll start with the wreath. I had all the materials on hand, and knew I could pop it out easy peasy!  The only thing I needed to buy was the wire frame which Amazon sells, or you can check out your local craft stores.

Start by cutting the fabric in strips measuring 1″ by 6″. Any smaller and they won’t fluff out as nicely. too long and they’ll look droopy.
1x6 inch fabric strips for a Rag Wreath
Using a simple knot, tie the strips around the wreath. Depending on the fabric you chose, you can make it a pattern to look more Flag like with the blue and stars on one side and striped red and white around, or scatter the colors around for a more mixed look like I have.
Tie fabric in knots to make a Rag Wreath
Of course, you have to have a little fun while crafting, right? It really makes the perfect picture frame with Nana.
Have fun crafting a Patriotic Rag Wreath
Finally, add a longer strip of fabric or some coordinating ribbon to the back of your frame. Hang it on your door for all visitors and passersby to enjoy! You now have a Patriotic Rag Wreath that will never go out of style.

Leave it up all year, or pull it out whenever you’re feeling especially patriotic. Enjoy your 4th of July!
Share your countries pride with a Patriotic Rag Wreath. So easy the kids can help out!

The kit is small and fits nicely in his car, and will maybe remind him to clean up at least once a week. Here’s what I put inside –

    • Microfiber Towels
    • Q-tips
    • Duster
    • Air Fresheners
    • Ammonia/water spray

For a decent car detailing, this is all you need!  Fill a spray bottle with 1:1 Ammonia and Water. Use the q-tips to clean in small crevices around the car, and the microfiber to wipe down larger surfaces. You can also use this mix on the windshield and windows for a clear driving experience. Don’t forget to hang an air freshener to keep that new car smell.

Keep the new car smell with this Summer Car Care Checklist #summercarcare #ad After you clean the inside of the car, don’t forget under the hood! There are a few simple things you can do at home, to keep your car running smoothly, and changing the air filter is one of the easiest. I prefer the FRAM filters, for the air and my oil.  Clean air in the engine keeps his car running smooth, and is really the engine’s first line of defense.

First, locate the air filter container in your car. Refer to your car’s owner manual if you need help finding this. Open the filter box, and remove the old filter.

Replace air filter for a clean drive #summercarcare #ad The filter on Mark’s car is a simple latch, so I didn’t need any special tools. On my car, it’s held down with screws. Either way, you don’t need any expensive or weird tools to complete this, and it hardly takes 5 minutes to complete. Once you have the old filter out, replace with a new FRAM air filter from Walmart.

In mark’s car, it’s in a tight spot, so I kept pushing the filter out one side while trying to close it. Don’t get discouraged, though! Just make sure you watch all sides, so your filter is properly contained before securing the filter container.

DIY Car Air Filter Change #summercarcare #ad Having a clean air filter will improve your car’s performance overall through better horsepower, and increased acceleration which I know Mark will love! Similarly to how I can now love sitting in his car because the inside is clean too!

You’re almost ready for a summer trip now! Before you go, make sure to check the oil, and get the kids involved with a car wash. Finally, you are ready to hit the road in a clean car, from inside to out. I can’t wait to hit up Chicago with Mark now!
